SEC. 2. CHAP. 81. An ACT for the relief of Moses Bliss.

CHAP. 85. An ACT to provide for the payment of certain pensioners in the
States of Virginia and Ohio.

[SEC. 1.] Be it enacted, by the Senate and House of Represen tatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled. A pension agency That the Secretary of War be, and he hereby is, authorized and empowered to establish a pension agency at the city of Wheeling in the State of Virginia, for the payment of pensioners of the United States resident in the counties of Brooke, Ohio, Marshall. Tyler, Wood, Lewis, Harrison, Randolph, Preston, and Monongalia, in Virginia, and Belmont, Jefferson, Guernsey, Harrison and Monroe, in the State of Ohio: Provided, That the establish ment of such agency can be made and continued without charge to the United States.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and hereby is, authorized to make the necessary arrangement for the payment of said pensioners.

And be it further enacted, That this act shall tak effect from and after the first day of August, eighteen hundre and thirty-six. Approved, June 7th, 1836.

CHAP. 86. An ACT to extend the western boundary of the State of Missou to the Missouri river.

[SEC. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represe tatives of the United States of America in Congress assemble That when the Indian title to all the lands lying between t State of Missouri, and the Missouri river shall be extinguishe the jurisdiction over said land shall be hereby ceded to the Sta of Missouri, and the western boundary of said State shall 1 then extended to the Missouri river, reserving to the Unite States the original right of soil in said lands, and of disposing the same: Provided, That this act shall not take effect until t President shall by proclamation, declare that the Indian title said lands has been extinguished; nor shall it take effect un the State of Missouri shall have assented to the provisions of th act. presented to him under the convention for the settlement of claims between the United States of America, and her Catholic Majesty the Queen of Spain, concluded at Madrid on the seventeenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and thirtyfour, which are provided for by the said convention, according to the provisions of the same, and the principles of justice, equity and the law of nations. The said commissioner shall have a secretary, versed in the Spanish and French languages, and a lerk, both to be appointed by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate; and the commissioner, secreary, and clerk, shall, before they enter on the duties of their offices, take oath well and faithfully to perform the duties thereof. SEC. 5. SEC. 6. sury, and he is hereby authorized and required to cause the moneys which may from time to time be paid in pursuance of the said convention, to be duly received and accounted for at Paris, and the same to be remitted, on the most advantageous terms, to the United States of America; and the said moneys, so received and remitted, shall be deposited in the Treasury of the United States, and the same are hereby appropriated to be distributed and paid to those authorized to receive them, according to the provisions of this act.

And be it further enacted, That the commissioner aforesaid shall report to the Secretary of State a list of all the several awards made by him, a certified copy of which shall be by the said Secretary of State transmitted to the Secretary of the Treasury, who shall thereupon distribute in ratable proportions, among the persons in whose favor the award shall have been made, such moneys as may have been received into the Treasury in virtue of this act, according to the proportions which their respective awards shall bear to the whole amount then received; first deducting such sums of money as may be due the United States from said persons in whose favor said awards shall be made; and shall cause certificates to be issued by the Secretary of the Treasury, in such form as he may prescribe, showing the proportion to which each may be entitled of the amount that may thereafter be received; and on the presen tation of the said certificates at the Treasury, as the nett proceeds of the general instalments, payable by the Government of Spain, shall have been received, such proportions thereof shali be paid to the legal holders of the said certificates.

SEC. 8. And be it further enacted, That all communications to and from the secretary of the commissioner appointed under this act, on the business of the commission, shall pass by mail free of postage.

SEC. 9. And be it further enacted, That, as soon as said commission shall be executed and completed, the records, documents, and all other papers in the possession of the commission or its officers, shall be deposited in the office of the Secretary of State. Approved 7th of June, 1836.

CHAP. 88. AN ACT making appropriations for the current expenses of the Indian Department, for Indian annuities, and other similar objects, for the year cne thousand eight hundred and thirty-six.

[SEC. 1.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Represen tatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the following sums be, and the same are hereby, appropria ted, for the objects hereinafter mentioned, to be paid out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated; that is to say: For pay of the Superintendent of Indian Affairs at St. Louis, and the several Indian Agents, as provided for by the act of thir tieth June, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-four, thirteen thousand five hundred dollars.

For the payment of a clerk in the office of Superintendent of 1836. Indians Affairs for the Territory of Wisconsin, eight hundred $800, pay of clerk dollars.
