PROLOGUE.

• Go, little book, without me, into the city : nor do I envy thee :' go into the great world ; go where thy master may not 'go; go to kings of the earth, and all people, princes, and all judges of the world, young men and maidens, old men and children. Demean thyself well, and exhibit to the great true greatness. On all occasions and in all places preach, saying, Temper is every thing : let this be thy text, and keep to thy text. Ah! go among the churches, and preach to those who preach, saying,— Temper is every thing ; go to all universities, academies and schools ; go over the great waters ; go to all continents and islands, and say every where,— Temper is every thing : go, if thou mayest, to the ladies,-carry thyself courteously, and win them, if thou canst, to thy principles,—tell them in tones soft and sweet --- Temper is every thing : go to
