OBLIGATION OF AN OATH. Gen. xxiv, 41. Then shalt thou be clear from this my oath, when thou comest to my kindred; and if they give thee not one, thou shalt be clear from my oath.

Lev. v, 4. Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these.

Josh. ii, 14--20. And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and And she said truly with thee. unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way. Ezek. xvii, 16-19. As I live, saith the Lord God, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die. 1 Sam. xix, 6. And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As the LORD liveth, he shall not be slain.

1 Sam. xx 3. But truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and

Prov. x. 18. He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

Prov. xi, 9. An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.

Prov. xiii, 5. A righteous man loathesome, and cometh to shame. hateth lying: but a wicked man is
