ken that the division be confirmed, agreeably to the decree of the said court, and the new township erected thereby be known by the name of Point township.

An order was drawn upon the Treasurer in favor of the Honorable William Brown, Esquire, for twenty-nine pounds sixteen shillings, in full for his attendance in Council untill this day, inclusively, and his mileage coming to Philadelphia and returning.

The following orders were drawn upon the Treasurer, vizt:

In favor of Anthony Bitting, for thirty-two pounds one shilling and eight pence, State money, amount of his certificate for three head of cattle furnished by him for public use; and

In favor of John Jenkin, for fifty-three pounds sixteen shillings, State money, in full of his certificate for a horse furnished by him for public use, according to the Comptroller General's reports, to be paid out of the funds appropriated by resolution of Assembly of the eighth of April, 1782.

In favor of Doctor Joseph Fenton, for fifteen pounds specie, in full of his account for services as Surgeon to Colonel Andrews' battallion of York county militia, in the fall of 1777, according to the Comptroller General's report, to be paid out of the militia fines of the said county.

Representation being made that the lott of ground within the limits of the tract of land reserved for the use of the Commonwealth, and opposite the town of Pittsburg, granted by act of Assembly to William Butler, Esquire, for the purpose of keeping a ferry, is from its situation liable to be overflowed, and otherwise rendered unfit for the purposes aforesaid,

Ordered, That indulgence be given to the said Butler, to estab lish a landing place and ferry house upon such other part of the said tract as will best promote the convenience of the public, and the intentions of the Legislature declared in their act aforesaid,

Resolved, That the said Butler be farther permitted to plough, sow, and otherwise cultivate such grounds as have been fenced and hitherto occupied by James Boggs, deceased, and that in return for these advantages, shall come under obligation to prevent the com

mission of all kinds of waste upon the timber, &ca., of the reserved tract above mentioned.

Upon motion,

Ordered, That the Surveyor General be directed to make out duplicate copies of all the general draughts of depreciation lands returned to his office; and that he cause these copies to be sent to and deposited in some public office in the town of Pittsburg, as a directory for such persons as have become purchasers of lots within the lands aforesaid.

A deed was examined and signed by the President to Hugh Horner, for a tract of land situate in Allen township, in the county of Northampton, containing one hundred and fifty acres of land, late the estate of Andrew Allen, an attainted traitor: Consideration two hundred and forty pounds. Deed dated the twenty-third day of June instant.

A fine of twenty shillings imposed upon James Caldwell, on conviction of larceny before the Quarter Sessions of the City Court, held on the twenty-fourth day of October, 1785, was remitted.

The fine imposed upon Margaret Dyer, now a prisoner in the jail of this city, was remitted.

An order was drawn upon the Treasurer in favor of the Honorable Jacob Rush, Esquire, for one quarter's salary as Judge of the Supreme Court, due the eighteenth instant, and being one hundred and fifty pounds.

James Hamilton, Esquire, was appointed and commissionated a Justice of the Peace for the district of North Hempfield, and county of Westmoreland, upon a return made agreeably to law; and also a Justice of the Court of Common Pleas for the said county. The petition of Richard How and John Eliott, was read and referred to the Attorney General.

The Council met.

The petition of John Funk, merchant in the town of Strasburgh, and county of Lancaster, was read, and an order taken that the part of the fine and forfeiture incurred by him upon a violation of the Excise laws, and due to the Commonwealth, be remitted.

On motion,

Ordered, That on to-morrow eleven o'clock, Council will take up the consideration of their vote of the twenty-seventh day of September, 1785, on the claims of Mr. Edward Williams, late a Mate in the General Hospital, and that notice thereof be given to Mr. Williams and the Comptroller General, who are desired to attend, and give such evidence on the point as they may respectively be possessed of.

The fine of three pounds imposed upon Catherine Taffer, on her conviction of a misdemeanor at the General Quarter Sessions of the Peace held in this city on the sixth day of March, 1786, was remitted.

An order was drawn upon the Treasurer in favor of the Honora ble George Bryan, Esquire, for one hundred and fifty pounds, being one quarter's salary as a Judge of the Supreme Court, ending the twenty-fifth instant.

In favor of the Honorable Thomas McKean, Esquire, for two hundred and fifty pounds, in full for one quarter's salary due to him as Chief Justice, ending the twenty-fifth instant, according to the Comptroller General's report.

In favor of William Bidgood, for thirty-seven pounds thirteen. shillings and one penny, State money, in full for principal and interest due upon his certificate for a horse furnished for public use, according to the Comptroller General's report, to be paid out of the fand appropriated by resolution of Assembly of the eighth of April,

1782.

The Council met.

PHILADELPHIA, Thursday, June 29th, 1786.

An order was drawn upon the Treasurer in favor of the Honorable Francis Hopkinson, Esquire, for the sum of fifty pounds, in part of his salary as Judge of the Court of Admiralty, and in the Admiralty Sessions for this State, according to resolution of Assembly dated the thirteenth day of March, 1782, for which sum he is to account.

William Nichols, Esquire, was appointed and commissionated a Notary and Tabellion Public.

Ordered, That the Surveyor General be directed to inform Coun cil whether he has yet received returns of any surveys made in district number three of the depreciation land, and what evidence he has that the person nominated to that district has yet entered upon the exercise of his appointment.

The following orders were examined and signed by the Honorable the Vice President, vizt:

To George Cooper, for city lots number 1767, and 1768. '
To David C. Claypoole, for lot number 1771.

And to James Stuart, for lot number 1753, sold at public auction the fourteenth instant. Deed dated the twenty-eighth day of this month..

In favor of the Honorable Jonathan Hoge, Esquire, for sixteen pounds sixteen shillings, in full of his attendance in Council until this day, inclusively.

In favor of Frederick Sneider, for fifteen pounds, in full for his wages as Doorkeeper until this day, inclusively.

An order was taken that Captain Stiles be directed to furnish two hundred and a quarter weight of gunpowder for the use of such of the militia of the city and liberties of Philadelphia as may meet to exercise on the fourth of next month, being the anniversary of Independance.

A deed was examined and signed by the Honorable the Vice President to Doctor Barnabus Binney, for city lot number 12, sold the fourteenth of this month for four hundred pounds. Deed dated the 28th instant.
