Էջ 519 - ... to pass acts for the regulation of trade and commerce, as well with foreign nations as with each other...

Էջ 572 - It is the declared will of the people of the United States that every treaty made by the authority of the United States shall be superior to the constitution and laws of any individual state; and their will alone is to decide.
Էջ 563 - A treaty is in its nature a contract between two nations, is not a legislative act. It does not generally effect of itself, the object to be accomplished, especially so far as its operation is infraterritorial, but is carried into execution by the sovereign power of the respective parties to the instrument.
Էջ 566 - By the Constitution a treaty is placed on the same footing, and made of like obligation, with an act of legislation. Both are declared by that instrument to be the supreme law of the land, and no superior efficacy is given to either over the other.
Էջ 544 - Congress is empowered to do. Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States.
