On motion of Mr. Stout the vote was made unanimous.

On motion of Mr. Stout, proceeded to informal ballot for Secretary, with the following result:

R. F. Johnstone 34; C. F. Kimball 75; C. L. Whitney 1. Total 110.

On motion of R. F. Johnstone, C. F. Kimball was declared unanimously elected Secretary.

On motion, A. J. Dean was unanimously elected Treasurer by acclamation. The society then proceeded to elect members of the Executive Committee to fill the places of those whose terms expire December 31st.

To facilitate business, it was moved that the vacancies in the committee be filled by a viva voce vote in each case. Carried.

Mr. Edwin Phelps of Pontiac was nominated for re-election, but he moved to amend by substituting Mr. Harvey Haines of Coldwater. The amendment was lost, however, and Mr. Phelps was very unanimously re-elected.

Mr. Townsend North of Tuscola county was nominated for re-election, but he declined, and named Mr. J. Q. A. Burrington of Tuscola, who was elected. S. A Browne of Oceana county also declined a re-election, and nominated Mr. D. W. Howard of Pentwater, who was unanimously elected.

Mr. J. Webster Childs of Washtenaw county was elected in place of Gov. Bagley.

All the other members were then re-elected.

By request, the Secretary reported the roll of officers as they will stand for 1874, as follows:

Bagley, for their efforts in behalf of the society, in placing it upon solid foundation, and for their great zeal in promoting the success of this great consolidated fair of Michigan.

EXECUTIVE SESSION MICHIGAN STATE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

Sweet's Hotel, Friday evening, September 19, 8 o'clock P. M.

President Griggs in the chair.

Quorum present.

Protest of Whitewood and Wallace received and read.

Mr. Baxter moved that the protest be tabled. Carried.

Communication in regard to trial of washing machines. Mr. Baxter moved the same be referred back to superintendent of division D, with full power to act. Carried.

Communication of Mrs. Edgecomb was referred to executive committee in charge of Art Hall. Carried.

Mr. Green moved that the subject matter of omission of examination of Capt. Hodges' horse, St. Dennis, be referred back to executive superintendent, with power to act. Carried.

Mr. Green moved that the chairman of committee class 48, Mr. Quimbly, continue, with power to complete the examination under the rules.

Mr. Hyde moved that Mr. Hodges be awarded a first premium to St. Dennis, in class 10.

Carried.

Ordered that a notice be inserted in morning papers that all claims against the society are requested to present them to the chairman of the business committee at president's office, Saturday morning, September 20.

Adjourned.

President Griggs being absent, Mr. Phelps was called to the chair.

On motion of Mr. Baxter, the matter of a special premium to the best of the colts of the Clyde breed, exhibited by a gentleman from Ontario, was referred to the superintendents of the horse departments, they to award such premium as they may deem proper.

On motion of Mr. Baxter, a committee consisting of Messrs. Conant, Avery, and Fralick was appointed to examine the photographic collection of Milo Hiler for special premium for Michigan scenery.

On motion of J. M. Sterling, the following resolution was adopted:

Resolved, That the thanks of the Michigan State Agricultural Society be and are hereby tendered to J. N. Fletcher, Esq., of Boston, for lighting the

entrance to the fair grounds every night during the fair with his magnificent street lamp.

The following resolutions were offered by Mr. Baxter and unanimously adopted:

Resolved, That the thanks of this committee be and they are hereby tendered to Hon. Henry Fralick of Grand Rapids for his untiring and eminently successful efforts to render the State Fair a success by devoting his time and energies, not only as chairman of the citizens' committee to the erection of the buildings and preparing the grounds according to agreement, and also on behalf of the society in making such other improvements as were required; that we deem ourselves particularly fortunate in having secured the services of so able, efficient, and practical a representative and agent.

Resolved further, That a gold medal, with a suitable inscription, be procured by the society and presented to Mr. Fralick as a slight acknowledgment of our appreciation of his services in our behalf.

Mr. Baxter offered the following resolution, which was adopted:

Resolved, That the proprietors of Sweet's Hotel, Messrs. Lyon & Nash, have the most sincere thanks of the Michigan State Agricultural Society for their highly successful efforts to accommodate the officers, executive board, and the public.

Resolved, That the thanks of the society be and are hereby tendered to the citizens of Grand Rapids for their unwearied and most successful efforts to accommodate and care for the immense number of guests of the past week, and for the ever ready aid in rendering the twenty-fifth annual fair of the Michigan State Agricultural Society an unprecedented success.

Resolved, That the thanks of the society are hereby tendered to the press of Grand Rapids for their uniform courtesy, invaluable aid, and elaborate reports of the fair during the exhibition.

Resolved, That the thanks of this committee be and they are hereby tendered to Col. S. S. Mathews of Pontiac for his courteous, gentlemanly, and efficient action as chief marshal.

Mr. Phelps offered the following resolution, which was adopted:

Resolved, That the thanks of the society are hereby tendered Hon. M. E. Crofoot and his associate judges of speed trials for the impartial and faithful discharge of their onerous duties.

The following resolution was offered by Mr. Baxter and adopted.

Resolved, That the secretary be instructed to cause the award of premiums at our late fair to be published at as early a day as practicable, in one of the Detroit daily papers and in the Michigan Farmer-and furnish for the use of the society one hundred (100) extra copies of the paper, at an expense to the society of not exceeding one hundred (100) dollars.
