The above account was kept open a short time after Dec. 1, 1873, to include the settlement of all bills properly belonging in it. This may account for any discrepancy between the present statement and that of the Secretary and Treas

urer.

The Apple Orchard.-The crop of fruit was very light and of poor quality. The expense of the experiments in the orchard, is included in the above account.

The Vegetable Garden and Small Fruits.-Upon many of the operations there was a nice profit. The grapes, a large plat of young currants, raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries, were all set this season. Besides this, the garden is much improved in condition, having been very heavily manured and kept free from weeds.

It

Care of Grounds.-In this is included the cost of mowing lawns, care of most of the shrubbery, and a very large number of ornamental trees. includes a good deal of work on new walks and drives, which it is impossible to accurately separate from the labor of keeping in repair those already made. The team consists of a span of horses and one old horse, "Old Prof," twentythree years of age. The keeping of the latter is included in the cost, but no account is made of his services, which consist in carting rubbish, vegetables, &c., for a few hours a day.

College Hall. The outlay here was mostly for new black-boards, all around two large recitation rooms.

Tools and Implements.-The inventory does not show as large an increase in value of tools as actually exists. The inventory taken Dec. 1, 1872, was too high, giving too nearly the retail prices of the tools, while that taken a year later gives nearly the wholesale prices. Some tools, of course, were broken.

Sample Beds. These include beds of grasses, sweet herbs, rare vegetables, &c., each in small quantity. It also includes samples of young trees and shrubs, which we hope is a beginning for an arboretum.

New Green-house.-A detailed report will be made when the house is completed. The above includes the money received, expended, or on hand, up to Dec. 1, 1873.
