notice is well written, in an original and animated style, and is evidently the result of personal inspection of the fair grounds, and is an intelligent and concise description, well calculated to promote the interests of the society. Your committee knows of no rule by which this entry, coming after its report was made up, could be allowed to interfere with the interests of the competitors who were entered on time, but believing that had it been made in time it would have been entitled to the third premium in place of the Michigan Farmer, your committee recommend that an additional premium be awarded to the Saginaw Daily Republican, the amount and character of which to be decided by the business committee of the society. Rule IV., 7, states that "no change or alteration is permitted after the books are placed in the hands of the committee," therefore any alteration after the report has been rendered would certainly be beyond the power of your com mittee. Respectfully submitted. HENRY S. CLUBB, Chairman of Local Notice Committee. Grand Haven, September 23, 1874. STATE FAIR PREMIUMS. BULLS FOUR YEARS OR OVER. In this class there were four entries by Messrs. John P. Sanborn of Port Huron, Geo. R. Hoyt of Owosso, H. Huff of Jonesville, and S. Y. Denton of Denton. Your committee awarded the first premium to Mr. Huff's "Sixth Duke of Hillsdale." Second premium to Mr. Sanborn's "Highland Chief." Third premium to S. Y. Denton's "Second Duke of Hillsdale." Of three-year old bulls there were four entries, by William Smith of Detroit, A. Wakeman of Hartland, J. C. Davis of Davisburgh, and Thos. Wood of Saline. First premium to Wm. Smith's "Emperor." Second premium to Thos. Wood's "Hotspur 5th." Third premium to A. Wakeman's "First Grand Duke of Oakland." In the two-year old bull class there were seven entries made, and five exhibited, by Messrs. Avery & Murphy of Detroit, Wm. Armour of Duplain, D. McOmber of Hastings, A. S. Brooks of West Novi, and Alexander Thompson of Port Huron. First premium was awarded to A. S. Brooks' "Eleventh Duke of Hillsdale." Second premium to Thompson's "Cornet." Third premium to D. McOmber's "Dickens." ONE YEAR OLD BULLS. The show of yearling bulls was very fine, though not very numerous, there being five entries, by Avery & Murphy, L. L. Brooks, D. M. Uhl, and J. P. Sanborn. First premium to Mr. Uhl's " Duke." Second premium to Mr. Sanborn's " Peacock." Third premium to Mr. L. L. Brooks' "John Anderson." BULL CALVES. In the class of bull calves there were twelve entries by Messrs. Sanborn, Brooks, Uhl, and M. E. Crofoot of Pontiac. In this number all bore evidence of high breeding, doing great credit to the breeders of this State, and an ornament to the "show ring." From these we awarded the 1st premium to "Gold Plate," 2d premium to "11th Duke of Oakland," and 3d premium to "12th Duke of Oakland," all owned by A. S. Brooks of West Novi, and all sired by "11th Duke of Hillsdale." COWS FOUR YEARS OLD OR OVER. In this class your committee found a magnificent show of the finest lot of cows we ever saw in the show ring at one time, there being nineteen entries of this number. A majority were well worthy of high premiums. The fine animals in this class were so numerous, and the competition so close, that we found it very difficult to place the premiums where they belonged, without seeming to do injustice to others. There were fine representations from the herds of Messrs. Avery and Murphy, John P. Sanborn, Geo. Wastell, Wm. McCool, M. E. Crofoot, L. L. Brooks, A. S. Brooks, S. Y. Denton, and D. M. Uhl. After a careful examination we awarded the 1st premium to Sanborn's "Jenny Lind 7th," 2d premium to S. Y. Denton's " Queen of Maple Bank," 3d premium to Sanborn's "Wastell's Miss Belle." HEIFERS THREE YEARS OLD. In this class we again find a very fine show of young cows which will do credit to any show ring, and will be of great value to the breeders of this State. There were ten entries in this class, filled by Avery & Murphy, John P. Sanborn, D. McOmber, A. S. Brooks, D. M. Uhl, and J. C. Davis. First premium to Avery & Murphy's "Michigan Casket." HEIFERS TWO YEARS OLD. There were twelve entries in this class, and a large majority of them very fine animals; some of them raising calves this season, and many worthy of great merit, doing great credit to their owners, and making liberal promises for the future advancement of the Short-horn herds of this State. They were shown by Avery & Murphy, John P. Sanborn, L. L. Brooks, A. S. Brooks, S. Y. Denton, and D. M. Uhl. First premium to D. M. Uhl's "Zaidee." Second premium to J. P. Sanborn's "Junietta." Third premium to A. S. Brooks' "Jessie of Oakland." The heifer calves were also a very fine show indeed. None of them were discreditable to their owners, and their many fine points required close examination by your committee, as well as calling out much commendation and some speculation from those outside the ropes in regard to the little embryo that made such fine promises for the future. Messrs. Avery & Murphy, J. P. Sanborn, D. McOmber, L. L. Brooks, S. Y. Denton, and D. M. Uhl were the exhibitors. First premium to J. P. Sanborn's "Duchess of Huron." Second premium to D. M. Uhl's "Red Rose of Brookside." Third premium to L. L. Brooks' "Bonny Bell." Yearling heifers were exhibited by Avery & Murphy, J. P. Sanborn, L. L. Brooks, A. S. Brooks, S. Y. Denton, and D. M. Ühl,-nine entries. Nearly all were very fine animals indeed. First premium to S. Y. Denton's " Second Queen of Maple Bank.” Second premium to D. M. Uhl's, not named. Third premium to Avery & Murphy's "Miss Barnum." In closing this report we would express our thanks for the courtesy and kind and respectful treatment shown us by the exhibitors and attendants in this class.
