Your committee have had their attention called to the entry of grain and vegetables exhibited by William L. Webber, Land Commissioner of the F. & P. M. Railway Company, and find they are an excellent collection, many of the articles being even superior to those entered for premiums. The name of the person raising each article, with the name of the township and county in which they were raised, was marked on each article exhibited, thus enabling your committee to form an intelligent opinion as to the capabilities of the soil in Isabella, Clare, and Lake counties. We would call especial attention to the collection presented from the (so-called) barren plains of Lake county, which convinced your committee that Prof. Miles was right when he stated that "a thorough examination of the so-called plain lands in Lake county has satisfied us that their agricultural capabilities have been very much underrated." We would recommend a diploma.
