THE

TRANSLATOR'S PREFACE.

an history of almost every nation, possesses not a complete one of the Turks. In order to fill up the chasm, I have ventured to give a translation of a history by abbot Mignot, which, for style, authorities, and arrangement, is 'universally allowed to be the best that has made its appearance in any language.
