Lo! the Lamb, so long expected,

Comes with pardon down from Heav'n
Let us haste with tears of sorrow,
One and all to be forgiven.

So when next He comes with glory,
Wrapping all the earth in fear,
May He then, as our Defender,
On the clouds of Heav'n appear.

Honour, glory, power, merit,
To the Father, and the Son;
With the everlasting Spirit,
While eternal ages run.

HYMN II.

Lo! He comes with clouds descending,
Once for favoured sinners slain;
Thousand thousand Saints attending,
Swell the triumph of His train :
Alleluia !

JESUS comes, and comes to reign.

Every eye shall now behold Him
Rob'd in dreadful majesty;

They who set at nought and sold Him,
Pierc'd and nail'd Him to the tree,
Deeply wailing,

Shall their true Messiah see.

HYMNS FOR ADVENT.

Blest Redemption, long expected,
See in solemn pomp appear;
All His Saints, by men rejected,
Rise to meet Him in the air.
Alleluia!

Angels, Martyrs, all are there.

Yea, Amen; let all adore Thee
High on Thine eternal Throne;
Saviour! worlds bow down before Thee,
Make Thy righteous sentence known.
O, come quickly,

Claim the kingdoms for Thine own.

HYMN III.

O THOU, Who from Thy Father's breast
Proceeding, Word, Sublime,
Didst come to aid a world distrest
In Thy appointed time.

Our hearts enlighten with Thy ray,
And kindle with Thy Love,

That dead to earth, they may aspire,
And live to joys above.

7

That when the Judgment Seat on high

Shall fix the sinner's doom,
And to the just a kind Voice cry,
"Come to your destin'd home."

Safe from the black and fiery flood
That sweeps the dread abyss ;
We may behold the Face of GOD
In everlasting bliss.

To GOD the Father, and the Son,
All praise and glory be,
With Thee, O Holy Comforter,
Through all eternity.

HARK! the herald Angels sing,
Glory to the new-born King!
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconcil'd!

Joyful all ye nations rise,

Join the triumph of the skies,
With the Angelic host proclaim,
Christ is born in Bethlehem.

Christ, by highest heav'n ador'd,
Christ the everlasting LORD,
Late in time behold Him come,
Offspring of a Virgin's womb:

Veil'd in flesh the Godhead see,
Hail Incarnate Deity:

Pleas'd as man with man to dwell,
Jesus our Immanuel.

Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and Life to all He brings,
Ris'n with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die:
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.

HYMN II.

ANGELS from the realms of glory
Wing your flight o'er all the earth,
Ye who sang creation's story,
Now proclaim Messiah's Birth.
Come and worship,

Worship Christ, the new-born King!

Shepherds in the field abiding,

Watching o'er your flocks by night; God with man is now residing,

Round you shines the heavenly light.
Come and worship,

Worship Christ, the new-born King!

Saints before the Altar bending
Watching long in hope and fear,
Suddenly the Lord descending
In His Temple shall appear.
Come and worship,

Worship Christ, the new-born King!
