Sec. 8. And be it further enacted, That the ration shall confift of as follows: Sunday, one

And there fhall alfo be allowed, one half-pint of distilled fpirits per day, or, in lieu thereof, one quart of beer per day, to each ration.

An Act to provide for the erecting and repairing of Arfenals and Magazines, and for other Purposes.

Sec. 1.

E it enacted by the Senate and Houfe of Reprefentatives of the United States of America, in Congress affembled, That Arfenals, for the fafe-keeping of the military-ftores, there &c. to be fhall be established under the direction of the Prefident of the United States, three or four arfenals with magazines, as he fhall judge moft expedient, in fuch places as will beft accommodate the different parts of the United States. Either or both of the arsenals heretofore ufed at Springfield and Carlifle, to be continued as part of the faid number, at his difcretion: Provided, That none of the faid arfenals be erected, until purchafes of the land neceffary for their accommodation be made with the consent of the legislature of the state, in which the fame is intended to be erected.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That there shall be established, at each of the aforefaid arfenals, a national armoury, in which fhall be employed one fuperintendant, and one mafter armourer (who fhall be appointed by the

Prefident of the United States) and as many workmen, as the Secretary for the department of War fhall, from time to time, deem neceffary, fo that the whole number, at all the armouries, fhall not exceed one hundred. And the faid fuperintendants shall each receive, as a compenfation, feventy dollars per month, and the faid mafter-armourers each, fifty dollars per month.
