The pay of Ministers Plenipotentiary is $9,000 per annum, as salary, besides $9,000 for outfit. The pay of Chargés d'Affaires is $4,500 per annum; of Secretaries of Legation, $2,000. The government of the United States is represented by Ministers Plenipotentiary at the courts of Great Britain, France, Russia, Spain, Prussia, and Mexico, and by Chargés d'Affaires at the courts of most of the other foreign countries with which this country is much connected by commercial intercourse. |
