The following bills, having been reported by the committee correct engrossed, were severally read a third time:

Mr. Jarnagin reported from the committee that they had this day p sented to the President of the United States the bill (H. R. 48) maki appropriations for the current and contingent expenses of the Indian d partment, and for fulfilling treaty stipulations with the various Indi tribes, for the year ending June 30, 1847.

The six bills this day received from the House of Representatives we severally read the first and second times, by unanimous consent.

Ordered, That bill numbered 159 be referred to the Committee on Pe sions; that bills numbered 132, 167, 168, be referred to the Committee Commerce; and that bills numbered 172 and 173 be referred to the Co mittee on Public Lands.

Mr. Jarnagin presented a preamble and resolutions, passed by the leg lature of the State of Tennessee, in favor of the payment of the claims certain companies of Tennessee volunteers mustered into the service of t United States in the month of July, 1836: which were referred to the Co mittee on Military Affairs, and ordered to be printed.

Mr. Dix presented the petition of John Mortimer, junior, praying t reimbursement of certain duties alleged to have been unlawfully exacted the collector of the port of New York: which was referred to the Comm tee on Finance.

Mr. Johnson, of Louisiana, presented a memorial of the legislature the State of Louisiana, praying that an appropriation may be made for moving obstructions in the channel of the bayou Lafourche: which w referred to the Committee on Commerce.

Mr. Yulee presented a petition of certain settlers on the public lands the State of Florida, praying that the benefits of the act to provide for t armed occupation and settlement of the unsettled part of the peninsula East Florida may be extended to them: which was referred to the Co mittee on Public Lands.

Mr. Bagby submitted the following resolution for consideration: Resolved, That a committee of five be appointed by the presiding offic to inquire into the expediency of preparing a plan for reporting the p ceedings and the substance of the debates of the Senate.
