TAM LIT-The Furopean cortesponuent of the Springfield Republican, writing from Elsinou , Donwpark, 8255 :

flore is slow. Hamlet's grave, evidently of rat's or modorn date. Or this a Garman writer says: "A moro striking homage has probally nover been paid to tlo gonias of a poet than when particolar burial places are assignei eren to the creations ef his im. agination;" whilo an Eogli-h writer, who regards the matter in a more historical point of view, says: * Ang heap of stones with Runic inscriptions upoa them, add said to stote Hamlet's grave, will be in vain searched for hero, even if they ever existed. In fact, Flamlet's identification with this enchanting spol, is, ut bca', but a Shakrpercan fiction. Hamlet's country was not Zeeland, bat Jutland. Here the name was pronounced Amlet, signifying madman.According to the Daziyb history of old Saxo-Grammaticus, (ho wrote svout the commencement of the 13th contury,) Damlet was not the son of a Danish king, but of a fa wous pirate chief, who was Govornor of Jallard in conjagction with his brother.--lamlat father married ibodasg’tor of the Danish king, and the issue of the marriage was Lamlet.

Hamlot's fa ber was su jsequently murdered by bis brother, who mistie?:ho widow and succeeded to the government of the wholo of Jutland. As a a Pagan, it was Samlet's first da'y to avenge his fatlor. The be ter to conceal his purpose he fuiga. ed madnes. His daclo suepasting is to be feigned, sent him to Eugla 1, kith a request to the king that ho word put Hamle: to doath. He was accompanied by two creatures of his uncle, whose letter to the Maglish King was carved upon wood. according to the custom of that periud. his, Tamlet, during the voyage, con rived to get possession of, and 50 ai. tered the charac:er8 as to make it a request that his two companions should be zlein, which was ecoordingly done on their arrival in England.

Ho afterwards married the daughter of the Eng. lish king, but subsequeni'y returnod to Jutland, and still soigaicg madness, contrived to surprise and slay bis uncle, after upbraidiog him with his various crimes. Hamlet then boome Govornor of Jutland, was married a second timurto a Queen of Scotland, and was eventually killed in battle. The whole his. tory of Ilamlet is carefully and minutely detailed : but t!108e are the leading historical features upon which Shalispeare founded his boautiful tragody; and rude and disgusting ay many of the incidents of Hamlet's life treze, the mode in which Shak-peare has treated them is one of the groatest proof of his splendid genius. According to Saro, Hamlet lived about four centuries before Christ."
