Wide unfold the radiant fcene,
Take the King of glory in!

2

Him, though highest heav'n receives,.
Still he loves the earth he leaves:
Though returning to his throne,
Still he calls mankind his own:
Still for us he intercedes,
Prevalent his death he pleads;
Next himself prepares our place,
Harbinger of human race.

3

Mafter, (may we ever fay)
Taken from our head to day,
See thy faithful fervants, fee,
Ever gazing up to thee!

Grant, though parted from our fight
High above yon azure height,
Grant our hearts may thither rife,
Foll'wing thee beyond the fkies.

4

Ever upward let us move,
Wafted on the wings of love;
Looking when our Lord fhall come,
Longing, gafping after home;
There we fhall with thee remain,
Partners of thine endless reign ;.
There thy face unclouded fee,
Find our heav'n of heav'n in thee.

HYMN 123. P. M.

ANGELS! roll the rock away;

Death! yield up thy mighty prey :
See! he rifes from the tomb,

Glowing with immortal bloom. Hallelujah.

2

"Tis the Saviour! Angels, raise Fame's eternal trump of praise ; Let the earth's remoteft bound

Hear the joy-infpiring found. Hallelujah..

3.

Now, ye faints, lift up your eyes,
Now to glory see him rife,

In long triumph up the sky,

Up to waiting worlds on high. Hallelujah.

4

Heaven difplays her portals wide,
Glorious Jefus, through them ride;
King of glory, mount thy throne,

Thy great Father's and thine own. Hallelujah.

5

Praise him all ye heav'nly choirs,

Praise, and fweep your golden lyres;
Shout, O earth, in rapturous fong!

Let the strains be fweet and ftrong. Hallelujah. 6

Ev'ry note with wonder fwell,

Sin o'erthrown, and captiv'd hell

Where is hell's once dreaded king?

Where, O death, thy mortal fting? Hallelujah,

[merged small][ocr errors][merged small]

FOR a fhout of facred joy
To God the Sov'reign King!
Let ev'ry land their tongues employ,
And hymns of triumph fing.

2

Jefus our God afcends on high;
His heav'nly guards around,
Attend him rifing through the fky,
With trumpet's joyful found.

3

While angels fhout and praise their King,
Let mortals learn their ftrains:
Let all the earth his honours fing;
O'er all the earth he reigns.

4

Rehearse his praise with awe profound;
Let knowledge lead the fong;
Nor mock him with a folemn found
Upon a thoughtless tongue,
5

In Ifrael ftood his ancient throne,
He lov'd that chofen race;
But now he calls the world his own,
And heathens tafte his grace.

6

The Gentile nations are the Lord's,.
There Abrah'm's God is known,

While pow'rs and princes, fhields and fwords,
Submit before his throne..

HYMN 125. L. M.

Now let us raise our cheerful strains,

And join the blissful choir above!
There our exalted Saviour reigns,
And there they fing his wond'rous love.

2

;

While feraphs tune the immortal fong,.
O may we feel the facred flame
And ev'ry heart and ev'ry tongue
Adore the Saviour's glorious name..

3

Jefus, who once upon the tree

4

Jefus, who dy'd that we might live,
Dy'd in the wretched traitor's place ;----
O what returns can mortals give,
For fuch immeasurable grace !
5

Were univerfal nature ours,

And art with all her boafsted store ;
Nature and art with all their pow'rs,
Would ftill confefs the off'rer poor !

6

Yet though for bounty, fo divine !
We ne'er can equal honours raise,
Jefus, may all our hearts be thine,
And all our tongues proclaim thy praife..

HYMN 126. L. M.

EXALTED Prince of Life, we own
The royal honours of thy throne :
"Tis fix'd by God's almighty hand,
And feraphs bow at thy command.

2

Exalted Saviour, we confefs

The fov'reign triumphs of thy grace;
Where beams of gentle radiance fhine,
And temper majefty divine.

3

Wide thy refiftlefs fceptre fway,
Till all thine enemies obey :

Wide may thy crofs its virtue prove,

And conquer millions by its love.

4

Mighty to vanquish, and forgive!

Thine Ifrael fhall repent and live;
And loud proclaim thy healing breath,

Which works their life, who wrought thy death..

HYMN 127. C. M.

JESUS, thou higheft, loveliest name

Of all on earth or heav'n,
The blefs'd reward of all thy fhame,
By thy great Father giv'n..

2

Because thou didst thy heav'ns bow,
Thy people's ancient fuit ;
Cam'it down in fervant's form, fo low,
As lofs of all repute.

3

In fashion as that fallen race,
Whofe offspring are but grafs,
Thou took'ft the meaneft, fervile place
In all their lowest class:

4

Becam'ft obedient unto death,

Nor could'ft, nor would't thou flee ; But humbly didft refign thy breath Upon the fhameful tree!

5

Therefore hath God exalted thee,
And fet thee up on high;

Where thou fhalt prais'd and worshipp'd be

To all eternity.

THUS

HYMN 128. L. M.

HUS the eternal Father fpake

To Chrift the Son ; "Afcend and fit
At my right hand, till I fhall make
Thy foes fubmiffive at thy feet.
