I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew xi. 28-30.

When the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. Ezekiel xviii. 27.

The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. Psalm cxlv. 8.

To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; Neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. Daniel ix. 9-10. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. Psalm ciii. 13-14.

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. Isaiah lvii. 15. Son, be of good cheer, thy sins be forgiven thee. Matt. ix. 2.

What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mark xi. 24.

The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer. Psalm vi. 9.

EARLY beloved brethren, we are now assembled to worship the one living and true God, the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; and knowing, from his own most gracious words, that where two or three meet together in his NAME, he is in the midst of them, we desire here to recognise his Divine Presence in the Humanity; to behold in the risen Christ the Infinite Creator; to bow down before him with sincere humiliation as the one only glorious object of worship and adoration; and to acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and wickedness before him. The Scripture moveth us in sundry places to this acknowledgment of our sins; and that we should not dissemble nor cloke them before the face of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; but confess them with an humble, lowly, penitent, and obedient heart; to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy. And although we ought at all times humbly to acknowledge our sins before God; yet ought we most chiefly so to do when we assemble and meet together to render thanks for the great benefits that we have received at his hands, to set forth his most worthy praise, to hear his most holy Word, and to ask those things which are requisite and necessary, as well for the body as the soul. Wherefore I pray and beseech you, as many as are here present, to accompany me, with a pure heart and humble voice, unto the throne of the Heavenly Grace, saying after me;

A general Confession to be said by the whole Congregation after the Minister, all kneeling.

The people shall answer at the end of all Prayers, Amen.

A1

LMIGHTY and most merciful Father; We have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have too often forgotten thy great mercies towards us. We have deeply offended against the spirit of thy blessed precepts. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But we now desire to bow down before thee, in deep humility and self-abasement; and to acknowledge and lament the manifold sins and wickedness, which we, from time to time most grievously have committed, by thought word and deed, against thy all-suffering love. We humbly beseech thee, O Lord, to have mercy upon us miserable offenders; to spare all those who confess their faults, and to restore those who are penitent; according to the gracious promises declared unto mankind in thy holy Word. Amen.

A Prayer for Repentance and the Remission of sins, to be said by the Minister alone.

A

LMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, who desireth not the death of a sinner, but rather that he may turn from his wickedness and live; and of thy great mercy, hath promised forgiveness of sins to all those,

who, with heartfelt repentance and true faith, turn unto thee; we, thine unworthy children humbly and earnestly beseech thee to grant us true repentance and thy Holy Spirit; that those things may please thee which we do at this present, and that the rest of our life hereafter may be pure and holy; so that at the last we may come to thy eternal joy, and dwell in thy presence for ever. Amen.

Then the Minister shall say the Lord's Prayer, the people repeating it with him.

OUR

UR Father who art in the heavens, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so upon the earth. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. By the Minister alone.

LORD, our heavenly Father, Almighty and everliving God, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day, defend us in the same with thy mighty power; and grant that we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings may be ordered by thy governance, to do always that which is righteous in thy sight, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

Here all standing up, the Minister shall say,
Praise ye the Lord.

Answer. The Lord's Name be praised.

¶ Then shall a Hymn be sung; or one of the following selections may be said or sung. VENITE, EXULTEMUS DOMINO. Psalm xcv.

COME, let us sing unto the Lord: let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving and shew ourselves glad in him with Psalms.

:

For the Lord is a great God: and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are all the corners of the earth: and his hands prepared the dry land.

O come, let us worship, and fall down: and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

For he is the Lord our God: and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness;

When your fathers tempted me: proved me, and saw my works.

Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said: It is a people that do err in their hearts, for they have not known my ways.

Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest. Amen. Or this. Isaiah lii. 7.

How beautiful: upon the mountains Are the feet of him: that bringeth good tidings;
