3 ¿Tan necios sois, que habiendo comenzado por el espíritu, os perfeccioneis por la carne?

4 ¿Tantas cosas habeis padecido en vano? Si empero; en vano. 5 Aquel pues que os dispensa el Espíritu, y obra las maravillas entre vosotros, i lo hace por las obras de la Ley ó por el oir de la fé?

6 Como Abraham creyó á Dios, y le fué imputado á justicia.

7 Sabed vosotros, que los que son de la fé, los tales son hijos de Abraham.

8 Y preveyendo la Escritura, que Dios por la fé había de justificar las gentes, evangelizó antes á Abraham, diciendo: en tí serán benditas todas las naciones.

9 Así pues los que son de la fé, son benditos con el fiel Abraham. 10 Porque todos los que son de las obras de la Ley, bajo de maldicion estan; porque escrito está: Maldito aquel que no permaneciere en todas las cosas escritas en el libro de la Ley para hacerlas.

11 Mas que ninguno se justifica por la Ley delante de Dios, es manifiesto; porque el justo, por la fé vive.

12 Y la Ley no es de la fé: mas el hombre que hiciere estas cosas, vivirá por ellas.

13 Christo nos ha redimido de la maldicion de la Ley, hecho por nosotros maldicion: porque escrito está: Maldito es todo aquel que es colgado de un madero:

14 Paraque la bendicion de Abraham fuese comunicada á los Gentiles por Jesu-Christo, á fin de que por la fé recibamos la promesa del Espíritu.

15 Hermanos, hablo como hombre, aunque no sea mas que el pacto de un hombre, si fuere confirmado, nadie le anula, ni le añade cosa alguna.

16 Y las promesas fueron hechas

3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.

5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. 9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. 10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth

on a tree:

14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.

16 Now to Abraham and his seed

á Abraham, y á su simiente. No dice á las simientes como de muchos; sino como de uno. Y á tu simiente, la cual es Christo.

17 Digo pues esto: que el pacto antes confirmado de Dios en Christo: la Ley que fué hecha cuatrocientos y treinta años despues, no la abroga para invalidar la pro

mesa.

18 Porque si la herencia es por la Ley, ya no es por la promesa. Mas Dios la dió á Abraham por la pro

mesa.

19 Pues, ¿paraqué la Ley? Fué puesta por causa de las transgresiones, (hásta que viniese la simiente, á la que fué hecha la promesa,) ordenada por los ángeles en la mano de un mediador.

20 Y el mediador no es de uno: Y Dios es uno.

21 ¿Es pues la Ley contraria á las promesas de Dios? No por cierto. Porque si la Ley dada pudiera vivificar, la justicia en verdad fuera por la Ley.

22 Mas la Escritura lo encerró todo bajo de pecado, paraque la promesa fuese dada á los creyentes por la fé en Jesu-Christo.

23 Mas antes que viniese la fé, estabamos bajo la guarda de la Ley, encerrados para aquella fé que había de ser revelada.

24 De manera que la Ley fué nuestro ayo para llevarnos á Christo, á fin de que fuesemos justificados por la fé.

25 Mas venida la fé, ya no estamos bajo del ayo.

26 Porque todos sois hijos de Dios por la fé en Jesu-Christo.

27 Porque todos los que habeis sido bautizados en Christo, estais revestidos de Christo.

28 No hay Judio, ni Griego, ni siervo, ni libre: no hay varon, ni hembra, porque todos vosotros sois uno en Jesu-Christo.

were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

22 But the Seripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterIwards be revealed.

24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. 26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female for ye are all one in Christ. Jesus.

2 Mas está bajo de tutores, y curadores hásta el tiempo señalado por el padre.

3 Así tambien nosotros, cuando eramos niños, eramos siervos bajo los elementos del mundo,

4 Mas cuando vinó la plenitud del tiempo, Dios envió su Hijo, hecho de muger, hecho sugeto á la Ley.

5 Para redimir aquellos que estaban bajo de la Ley, paraque recibiesemos la adopcion de hijos.

6 Y por cuanto sois hijos, envió Dios el Espíritu de su Hijo en vuestros corazones, el cual clama Abba Padre.

7 Y así ya no eres siervo, sino hijo; y si hijo, tambien heredero de Dios por Christo.

8 Mas entonces que no conociais á Dios, serviais á los que por naturaleza no son Dioses.

9 Pero habiendo conocido á Dios, por mejor decir siendo conocidos de Dios: ¿cómo os volveis de nue vo á los elementos flacos y pobres á los cuales quereis otra vez servir?

10 Guardais dias, y meses, y tiempos, y años.

11 Me temo de vosotros, de que no haya trabajado en vano en vosotros.

12 Os ruego hermanos, sed como yo, porque yo soy tambien como vosotros; vosotros no me habeis hecho agravio alguno.

long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;

2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.

3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:

4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.

9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

10 Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.

11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

12 Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all.

14 Y no desechasteis ni desprecias

14 And my temptation which was

15¿Cuál pues era vuestra felicidad? Porque yo os doy testimonio que si ser pudiese, os hubiereis sacado los ojos para darmelos.

16 Me he hecho pues enemigo vuestro, diciendoos la verdad? 17 Ellos os celan, mas no por bien; sino os quieren separar paraque los celeis á ellos.

18 Bueno es ser celosos, mas en bien siempre: y no solamente cuando yo me hallo presente entre vosotros.

19 Higitos mios, de quienes estoy otra vez de parto, hásta que Christo sea formado en vosotros.

20 Quisiera ciertamente estar ahora con vosotros, y mudar mi voz; porque estoy perplexo para

con vosotros.

21 Decidme los que quereis estar bajo de la Ley ¿no habeis oido la Ley?

22 Porque escrito está : que Abraham tuvó dos hijos, uno de una sierva, y otro de una muger libre.

23 Mas el que era de la sierva, nació segun la carne; y el que era de la libre, nació por la promesa.

24 Las cuales cosas fueron una alegoría: porque estos son los dos pactos: el uno del monte Sinai, que engendra servitud, la cual es Agar.

25 Porque Agar es Sinai, monte de la Arabia, que corresponde á la Jerusalem del tiempo presente, la cual sirve con sus hijos.

26 Mas aquella Jerusalem que está arriba, es libre; la cual es nuestra madre,

27 Porque escrito está: Alegrate la esteril que no pares: rompe, y da voces, la que no estás de parto: porque son muchos mas los hijos

15 Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me. 16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? 17 They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.

18 But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.

19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

20 I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.

21 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?

22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a free wo

man.

23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the free woman was by promise.

24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.

25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.

26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more

28 Y así, hermanos, nosotros á la manera de Isaac somos hijos de la promesa.

29 Mas como entonces aquel que era nacido segun la carne, perseguía al que había nacido segun el Espíritu; así tambien ahora.

30 Pero, ¿qué dice la Escritura? Echa fuera á la sierva y á su hijo: porque el hijo de la sierva no será heredero con el hijo de la muger libre.

31 Así pues hermanos, nosotros no somos hijos de la sierva, sino de la libre.

28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.

30 Nevertheless what saith the Scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the free woman. 31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.

CAPITULO V.

STAD pues firmes en la libertad en que Christo nos ha hecho libres, y no volvais otra vez á ser uncidos bajo el yugo de la servidumbre.

2 He aquí, yo Pablo os digo, que si os circuncidareis, Christo no os aprovechará nada.

3 Porque de nuevo protesto á todo hombre que se circuncida, que está obligado á guardar toda la Ley.

4 Christo se ha hecho de ningun efecto para vosotros, que sois justificados por la Ley: habeis caido de la gracia.

5 Porque nosotros por el Espíritu aguardamos la esperanza de la justicia por la fé.

6 Porque en Jesu-Christo, ni la circuncision vale nada, ni la incircuncision, sino la fé que obra por la caridad.

7 Vosotros corriais bien, ¿quién os embarazo para que no obedecieseis la verdad?

8 Esta persuasion no es de aquel que os llama.

9 Un poco de levadura hace fermentar toda la masa.

10 Confio de vosotros en el Señor que no tendreis otro sentimiento:

4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

7 Ye did run well; who did hînder you that ye should not obey the truth?

8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.

9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

10 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be
