Public Hearing

Energy Situation

Chairman de la Garza called the meeting to order and made a brief opening statement on the need to look at the energy situation as it relates to agriculture. Mr. Madigan, the Ranking Minority Member of the Subcommittee, also made opening remarks.

The witnesses listed on page 2 were recognized for their prepared testimony. Following presentation of their statements the witnesses were questioned by the Members.

Chairman de la Garza announced that Secretary Schlesinger had been scheduled to appear, but had canceled due to some pressing problems in the energy field. He advised that the Secretary would be rescheduled next week.

During the proceedings recesses were taken at 2:15 and 3:20 p.m. to enable Members to respond to recorded votes on the House Floor. At 5:07 p.m. the meeting was adjourned, subject to the call of the Chair.
