Public Hearing

State of Agriculture--Discussion by
Secretary Bergland

Chairman Foley called the meeting to order. He announced that the Committee will hold five days of public hearings, beginning Tuesday, February 13, at 10:00 a.m., to review the operations of existing government farm programs and proposals for improving them.

Secretary Bergland was recognized for his prepared statement on the current agricultural situation. Following presentation of his testimony, the Secretary was questioned by the Members of the Committee.

At 1:30 p.m. the meeting was adjourned by Acting Chairman de la Garza to reconvene on February 13 to hear Members of Congress discuss the current agricultural situation.

Current Agricultural Situation

Chairman Foley called the meeting to order for the purpose of receiving testimony on the current agricultural situation. The witnesses listed on page 2 of these minutes were recognized for their prepared statements. Following presentation of their testimony, the witnesses were questioned by the Members of the Committee.

At 11:45 a.m. the meeting was adjourned to reconvene at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14, to hear representatives of the American Agricultural Movement.
