Current Agricultural Situation

Acting Chairman Baldus called the meeting to order for the purpose of receiving testimony on the current agricultural situation. The witnesses listed on page 2 of these minutes were recognized for their prepared statements. Following their presentations, the witnesses were questioned by the Members of the Committee.

U.S. Sugar and Sweetener Policy
H.R. 2172, and related bills

Acting Chairman de la Garza called the meeting to order and recognized the witnesses listed on page 2 of these minutes for their prepared testimony on U.S. sugar and sweetener policy. Following presentation of their statements the witnesses were questioned by the Members of the Committee.

The following special introductions were made: Mr. Nolan introduced the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative panel; and Mr. Hance introduced Messrs. Cleavinger and Witherspoon.

At 12:05 p.m. the meeting was adjourned to reconvene at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, to hear Administration witnesses discuss our sugar and sweetener policy.
