104th The Lord will provide. NEWTON I THO' troubles assail, and dangers affright,

Tho' friends should all fail, and foes all unite,
Yet one thing secures us, whatever betide,
The scripture assures us, the Lord will provide.

2 The birds without barn, or storehouse are fed,
From them let us learn, to trust for our bread:
His saints what is fitting, shall ne'er be denied,
So long as 'tis written, the Lord will provide.

3 His call we obey, like Abra'am of old,

Not knowing our way, but faith makes us bold-
For tho' we are strangers, we have a sure guide,
And trust in all dangers, the Lord will provide.

4 No strength of our own, or goodness we claim,
Yet since we have known, the Saviour's great name
In this our strong tower for safety we hide,
The Lord is our power, the Lord will provide.

5 When Satan appears to stop up our path,
And fill us with fears, we triumph by faith;
He cannot take from us, tho' oft he has try'd,
This heart cheering promise, the Lord will provide.

6 When life sinks apace, and death is in view,
This word of his grace shall comfort us through
No fearing or doubting with Christ on our side,
We hope to die shouting, the Lord will provide.

7's. Providential guidance. KELLÝ,

WHEN we cannot see our way,

Let us trust, and still obey; He, who bids us forward go, Cannot fail the way to show.

2 Tho' the sea be deep and wide,
Tho' a passage seems denied,
Fearless, let us still proceed,
Since the Lord vouchsafes to lead.

3 Tho' it seems the gloom of night,
Tho' we see no ray of light,
Since the Lord himself is there,
'Tis not meet that we should fear.

4 Night, with him is never night,
Where he is there all is light;
When he calls us, why delay ?
They are happy who obey.

5 Be it our's then, while we're here,
7 Him to follow without fear;

Where he calls us, there to go,
What he bids us, that to do.

C. M. Mercies in succession.

STENNETT.

1 HOW various and how new
Are thy compassions, Lord!

Each morning shall thy mercies show,
Each night thy truth recal.

2 Thy goodness, like the sun,
Dawn'd on our early days,
Er'e infant reason had begun,
To form our lips to praise.

3 But pleasures more refin❜d,
Awaited that blest day,
When light arose upon our minds,
And chas'd our sins away.

4 And yet we hail a day

Still brighter far than this, When death shall bear our souls away, To realms of light and bliss.

5 There rapt'rous scenes of joy

Shall burst upon our sight;
And ev'ry pain, and tear, and sigh,
Be drown'd in endless light.

Israel's God.

KELLY.

1 TO Israel's God let praise be giv'n,
The living God, the God of heav'n;
He reigns, let all his people sing;
He reigns, our Saviour and our King.

2 Our God, what sweetness in the sound! Our God, let thankful songs abound, 1 Th' Eternal God our father is,

We trust in him, and we are his.

3 The God who sits on yonder throne 1 In dread magnificence alone,

Our Father, and our God, we style,
His frown is death, and heav'n his smile.

4 Redeem'd by blood, and heirs by grace,
We hope to see our Father's face,
The prospect cheers us on our way,
The prospect of that glorious day.

5 A day that human thought transcends,
A glorious day that never ends;
The prospect of a day like this
New strength in ev'ry conflict is.

Praise to God in prosperity.

PART 1.

BARBAULD

PRAISE to God, immortal praise,
For the love that crowns our days;
Bounteous source of ev'ry joy!
Let thy praise our tongues employ.

2 For the blessings of the field, For the stores the gardens yield; For the vines' exalted juice,

3 For the gen'rous olive's use.

3 Flocks that whiten all the plain,
Yellow sheaves of ripen'd grain;
Clouds that drop their fatt'ning dews,
Suns that temp'rate warmth diffuse.

4 All that spring, with bounteous hand,
Scatters o'er the smiling land;

All that lib'ral autumn pours,
From the rich o'erflowing stores :

5 These, to thee O GOD, we owe;
Source whence all our blessings flow!
And for these, our souls shall raise,
Grateful vows and solemn praise.
