8. 7. Close of the Year. WASHBOURN.
LIFE is like a passing vapour,
O how quickly it is gone;
As the glimm'ring of a taper,
Dies before the rising dawn:
'Tis a shadow ever moving,
Knowing no abiding rest;
Happy they who grace enjoying,
Have a better life posses'd.

2 Time will soon have fled for ever,
Swept into eternity;
But immortal souls can never-
Never die or cease to be:

O that some divine impression,
On our careless hearts may stay;
While our years in quick succession,
Thus begin, and pass away.

S. M. Exhortation to praise.

MONTGOMERY.

TAND UP and bless the Lord,
Ye people of his choice ;

2

Stand up, and bless the Lord your God,
With heart, and soul, and voice.

O for the living flame,

From his own altar brought,

To touch our lips, our minds inspire,
And wing to heav'n our thought!

There with benign regard
Our hymns he deigns to hear;
Though unreveal'd to mortal sense,
The spirit feels him near.

4 God is our strength and song,
And his salvation ours;

5

Then be his love in Christ proclaim'd,
With all our ransom'd powers,

Stand up and bless the Lord,
The Lord your God adore;

Stand up, and bless his glorious name,
Henceforth for evermore.
