ΤΟ THE PUBLIC.

WITH a view to promote Harmony, and to en

hance the focial pleasures of those polite circles who make vocal mufic a part of their amufement, the Compiler fends this little volume of Lyric poetry into the world.

He has carefully avoided all those obscene and trifling compofitions with which many publications of this nature are indelicately crowded; introduced many originals; and felected the reft from the most admired MODERN authors; except fome few, the peculiar excellence of which will always recommend them.

As every Songster will here find subjects suited to his tafte, except one, the Libertine, who would rudely tinge the cheek of modefty with a painful blush,-the Compiler hopes that his little book will merit a favorable reception amongst the lovers of HARMONY and SONG.

A Rofe tree full in bearing

Ab! Hope, thou dear deceiver, fay

Affift, O thou God of the Vine

As burns the charger when he hears

-

All you that are wife, and think life worth enjoying

An old woman cloathed in grey, with Italian imitations

A tinker I am, my name's Natty Sam

A plague of thofe mufty old lubbers

At the found of the born

Away to the field

Come, Fancy, thou who canft regain
Come, come, bid adieu to fear
Come all you gemmen volunteers
Ceafe, rude Boreas, bluff ring railer
Come, learn of me, my rural friends
Come, live with me, and be

Diftill'd amidst the gloom of night

Dear object of each fond defire

Dear is my little native vale

Encompass'd in an angel's frame

From glaring fhew and giddy noise

From thefe dread walls

For tenderness fafbion'd, in life's early day

For
