66.-1. The relative pronoun fometimes differs in gender from its antecedent, regarding its meaning rather than its form. Matth.

Teach (παντα τα εθνη βαπτιζοντες αυτες) all nations baptizing them.-- John xv. 26. Το πνευμα-Εκείνος μάρτυρήσει, , The Spirit-he fball teftify.--Rom. ix. 23, 24. 2. The relative pronoun fometimes differs in number from its antecedent. Philip. iii. 20. Our conversation is (ev epavots e ow) for heaven, from whence also we look for the Saviour.

67.-1. The relative pronoun (es) is sometimes put for the demonArative (outos).

'A 009anuos ex Eide. Those things eye hath not feen, &c. So 'A must be translated, because in the end of the sentence there is another A, fignifying which.-2 Cor. ii. 16. 'Ois peev; To these indeed it is the favour of death enda ing in death, (os de) but to those, &c.

86.-Ι. Απο, in. Luke xii. 57. Τι δε και αφ' εαυτων και xgevett, And wby also in yourselves do ye not judge what is right? 3. Ato denotes sometimes the efficient cause. Mark viii. 31. And be rejected (QTO TWO TPERQUtepwa) by the elders.-- James i. 27. Unspotted (ano TX xodus) by the world.

90.-1. l'ap, often hath a casual signification. So our translators thought. Rom. iv. 15. “Ο γαρ νομος εργην κατεργαζεται Because the law worketh wrath. * --Heb. vii. 11. If indeed fe&tion were through the Leviticol priesthood, (i naos yag En' avrn) because on account of it the people received the law.

92.-1. Cap, is used to introduce a reason for something in the writer's mind, which he hath not expressed. Thus Rom. iv. 2.

Here the proposition suppressed which this is produced to prove, is, Abraham did not obtain justification by the flesh. For if Abraham'were justified by the work of circumcifion, which he performed on his fesh, he might have boasted.

94.-1 Tag, is ufed as an affirmative particle, and must be translated, Indeed, certainty. Rom. viii. 7. TW yap voup T' εχ υποτασσεται, εδε γαρ δυναται. For it is not fubject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. *

In rendering this clause, our transtors being senGible of the absurdity of making the faithfulness of God depend on men's unfaithfulne's, and not recollecting that (81) fignifies although, have in their translation endeavoured to avoid the atsurdity, not very properly, by supplying the word yet ; thus, If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful. The proper translation is,* Though we be unfaithful, he abideth faithful; he cannot deny himself 133. 2. Et syag, Siquidem, Since indeed.
