Before the mountains were, &c. even from everlasting to everlasting thou art God.-Ps. xc. 2.

The Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods, &c. O come let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture.-Ps. xcv. 3. 6, 7. The Lord reigneth, &c. worship him all ye gods, &c. for thou, Lord, art high above all the earth; thou art exalted far above all gods.-Ps. xcvii. 1.7. 9.

Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his foot-stool, he is holy. Ps. xcix. 5. 9.

Serve the Lord with gladness, come before his presence with singing, &c. He is God.-Ps. c. 2, 3.

Holy and reverend is his name.Ps. cxi. 9.

I will worship toward thy holy temple.-Ps. cxxxviii. 2.

Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God; and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools, &c. Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing (or word) before God for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth; therefore let thy words be few.-Eccles. v. 1, 2.

Be not righteous over much, neither make thyself over wise, &c.Eccles. vii. 16.

Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, &c. to whom then will ye liken God? or what, &c. -Isa. xl. 12-18.

I am the Lord, that is my name; and my glory will I not give to another.-Isa. xlii. 8.

That ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am He: before me there was no God formed (or nothing formed of God), neither shall there be after me. I am the Lord, and besides me there is no Saviour. I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed when there was no strange god among you therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that

I am God; yea, before the day was, I am He; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand. I will work, and who shall let it? Thus saith the Lord, your Redeemer, the holy One of Israel, &c. But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob.-Isa. xliii. 10-15. 22. ·

Thus saith the Lord, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last, and besides me there is no God, &c. Ye are my witnesses, is there a God besides me? yea, no God, I know not any, &c. Thus saith the Lord, &c. I am the Lord that maketh all things, that stretched forth the heavens alone, that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself, &c.-Isa. xliv. 6. 8. 24. Ps. xcvi. 5.

I am the Lord, and there is none else; there is no God besides me. I girded thee, though thou hast not known me. That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and none else: I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things, &c. Thus saith the Lord that created the heavens, God himself that formed the earth, and made it, he hath established it, &c. I am the Lord, and there is none else.-Isa. xlv. 5-7. 18. 21, 22.

I am God, and there is none besides me. I am God, and none like me, declaring the end from the beginning; and from ancient times the things that are not yet done: saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.-Isa. xlvi. 9, 10. xli. 4.

But the Lord is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting King; at his wrath the earth shall tremble, &c. He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion. When he uttereth his voice, &c.-Jer. x. 10-13. Heb. ix. 14.

there is no Saviour besides me. Hosea xiii. 4. Isa. xxxvii. 20.

I hate, I despise your feasts, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies, &c. But let judgment run down, &c.-Amos v. 21-24. Ps. lxvi. 18. Isa. lxvi. 3. Jer. vi. 20. Isa. i. 11, &c. And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem, shall even go up from year to year, to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, &c.-Zech. xiv. 16.

If then I be a father, where is mine honour? &c. And if ye offer the blind and the lame, &c. offer it now unto thy governor, will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? &c. Ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: Should I accept this of your hands? saith the Lord. But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth and sacrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the Lord of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen. Mal. i. 6. 8. 13, 14. ii. 2, 3. 13.

The Lord whom ye seek shall suddenly come, &c. Then shall the offering of Judah be pleasant unto the Lord.-Mal. iii. 1. 4.

Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.-Matt. iv. 10.

Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.-Matt. xviii. 20.

There is one God, and there is none other but he.-Mark xii. 32.

Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship, &c. The hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what, &c. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth for the Father seeketh such

to worship him. God is a Spirit, and they that worship him, must worship him in spirit and in truth.-John iv. 20-24.

The Father himself, &c. ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.-John v. 37. Exod. xxxiii. 20.

And he said, Lord, I believe, and he worshipped him.-John ix. 38.

The Most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands, &c. Heaven is my throne, &c. hath not my hand made all? &c.-Acts vii. 48-50.

Whom ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands: neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation, &c. Acts xvii. 23-26.

After the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers.-Acts xxiv. 14.

God whom I serve with my spirit, &c. The invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and godhead: so that they were without excuse; because that when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, but became vain, &c. changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever, Amen.-Rom. i. 9. 20, 21. 23. 25. 2 Tim. i. 3.

Not slothful in business, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.-Rom. xii. 11.

This I speak, &c. that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.-1 Cor. vii. 35.

We know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none

other God but one. For though there be that are called gods, &c. but to us there is but one God the Father, of whom are all things, and we in (or for) him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.-1 Cor. viii. 4—6. 1 Tim. ii. 5.

So falling down on his face, he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.-1 Cor. xiv. 25. Gen. xxiv. 26. 52. Exod. iv. 31. xii. 27. xxxiv. 8. Joshua v. 14.

We are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit.-Phil. iii. 3. When he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. Heb. i. 6.

God, &c. because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, &c. The living God, &c.-Heb. vi. 13. ix. 14.

Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace (or hold fast) whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: for our God is a consuming fire.-Heb. xii. 28, 29.

Ye also as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifice, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.1 Pet. ii. 5.

No man hath seen God at any time.-1 John iv. 12.

The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth.Rev. iv. 10, 11.

Fear God, and give glory unto him, &c. And worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.-Rev. xiv. 7. xv. 4. iv. 8—11. v. 13.

Worship God.-Rev.xix. 10. xxii. 9. Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts.-1 Pet. iii. 15.

The Lord, &c. he will famish all the gods of the earth, and men shall worship him, every one.-Zeph. ii. 11.

SECT. V. Believe, and be found in the Practice concerning the things of God, and his Worship, but that which clearly (according to the Precepts, Rules, and Examples of the Scriptures) appears to be Christ's mind, upon which we can in Faith expect acceptance. AND Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord, and all the judgments and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the Lord hath said, will we do. And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord, &c. And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people; and they said, All that the Lord hath said, will we do, and be obedient.Exod. xxiv. 3, 4. 7.

And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell amongst them: according unto all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof; even so shall ye make it.— Exod. xxv. 8, 9.

In the tabernacle, without the veil which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the Lord, &c.→ Exod. xxvii. 21.

And these are the garments which they shall make; a breast-plate, &c. And they shall make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office, &c.-Exod. xxviii. 4, &c.

They made the holy garments for Aaron, as the Lord commanded Moses, &c.-Exod. xxxix. 1.

Thus did Moses: according to all that the Lord commanded him, so did he, &c. He spread abroad the tent over the tabernacle, &c. as the Lord commanded Moses, &c. And he lighted the lamps before the Lord, as the Lord commanded Moses, &c. When they came near unto the altar, they washed, as the Lord commanded Moses.-Exod. xl. 16. 19. 21. 23. 25. 27.29. 32. Levit. viii. 4, 5. 36.

So did David in all he did, as he received from God.—1 Chron. xxviii. 12, 13. 19. 2 Chron. xxix. 25.

Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, &c. offered strange fire, which he commanded them not; and there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord. And Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the Lord spake, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people, &c.Levit. x. 1-3.

After the doings of the land of Egypt, &c. and after the doings of the land of Canaan, &c. shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances. Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the Lord your God.-Levit. xviii. 3, 4.

And they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month, at even, in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel, &c. They shall leave none of it, &c. According to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it. Moses inquired of God, in an unrevealed case, about the passoyer.-Numb. ix. 5-10. 12. Levit. xix. 5, 6. xxii. 30-32.

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you; neither shall you, &c.-Deut. iv. 2.

Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess, served their gods, &c. Ye shall not do so unto the Lord your God but unto the place which the Lord your God shall choose out of all your tribes, to put his name there; unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come, and thither ye shall bring your burnt-offerings, &c. and ye shall not do, &c. every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes, &c. When you go over Jordan, &c. then there shall be a place which the Lord your God shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there; thither shall ye bring all that I command

you, your burnt-offerings, &c. Take heed to thyself, that thou be not snared by following them, &c. And that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? Even so will I do likewise. Thou shalt not do so unto the Lord thy God, &c. What things soever I command you, observe to do it; thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.-Deut. xii. 2. 4—6. 8. 10, 11. 13. 30-32. Numb. xv. 39, 40.

Secret things belong unto the Lord our God; but those things which are revealed belong unto us, and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.-Deut. xxix. 29.

Rebel not, &c. in building you an altar, beside the altar of the Lord our God.-Josh. xxii. 19. 29.

Jeroboam ordained a feast, &c. like unto the feast in Judah, &c. even in the month which he had devised of his own heart.-1 Kings xii. 32, 33. 2 Kings xvii. 8.

Israel had sinned, &c. in walking in the statutes of the heathen, &c. and of the kings of Israel, which they had made, &c.-2 Kings xvii. 7, 8. 19.

Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise.-Eccles. vii. 16.

To the law, and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Isa. viii. 20. Jer. viii. 9.

The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof, because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinances, &c.-Isa. xxiv. 5.

And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, &c. Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, &c. and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men; therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work, &c. The wisdom of their wise men shall perish, &c.-Isa. xxix. 11-14.

The place of my throne, &c. shall the house of Israel no more defile; neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, &c. in their setting of their threshold by my thresholds, and their posts by my posts, &c.-Ezek. xliii. 7,8.

Son of man, mark well, &c. all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the Lord, and all the laws thereof, &c. And thou shalt say to the rebellious, &c. Ye have brought into my sanctuary strangers, uncircumcised in heart, &c. to pollute it; even my house, when ye offer my bread, &c. And ye have not kept the charge of mine holy things; but ye have set keepers of my charge (or ordinance) in my sanctuary for yourselves.--Ezek. xliv.

If ye offer the blind, &c. offer it unto thy governor, &c. I am a great king, &c.-Mal. i. 6. 8. 13, 14.

Why do you transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? For God commanded, saying, &c. But ye say, &c. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition, &c. In vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. -Matt. xv. 3-6. 8, 9. Mark vii. 3-8.

Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.-Matt. xviii. 20.

Teaching them to observe all things,

whatsoever I have commanded you.Matt. xxviii. 20. Acts x. 33.

That which is highly esteemed amongst men, is abomination in the sight of God.—Luke xvi. 15.

When Paul, according to advice, had observed some Jewish ceremonies, the Jews came upon him, and laid hold on him; the very thing his advisers proposed to prevent by it.― Acts xxi. 20, &c.

After the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers; believing all things which are written in the law and the prophets.-Acts xxiv. 14.

That ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable will of God.— Rom. xii. 2. Eph. v. 10. 17.

He that doubteth, is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith, is sin. Rom. xiv. 23.

Now I praise you, brethren, that you, &c. keep the ordinances (or traditions) as I delivered them to you, &c. For I have received of the Lord, that which also I delivered unto you; That the Lord Jesus the same night, &c.-1 Cor. xi. 1, 2. 23.

Though we or an angel from heaven preach unto you other than that which we have preached, &c. let him be accursed.-Gal. i. 8.

Ye did run well who did hinder you (or turn you back)? This persuasion cometh not of him that called you.-Gal. v. 7, 8.

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, &c.-Eph. iv. 14.

Those things which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do.-Phil. iv. 9.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, &c. If ye be dead with Christ, why, as though living in the world are ye subject to ordinances (touch not, taste not,
