This was the second official trip to South America which Mr. Hull has made since he became Secretary of State. It will be recalled that, as Chairman of the United States Delegation, he attended the Seventh International Conference of American States at Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1933, being the first Secretary of State of this country to travel to Latin America to attend one of the inter-American conferences as an official delegate. Mr. Hull took advantage of the opportunity to visit the countries touched en route to and from Buenos Aires, and the present publication contains not only the addresses and statements made by him at the Conference 3but also those made by him in connection with his trip. It is believed that this publication will be of special interest in view of the success of the Conference and the important utterances made by the Secretary of State during the Conference. The address to the Conference on December 5, 1936 contains the Hull "Eight Pillars of Peace" which outline in detail this Government's comprehensive program for the maintenance of peace in the Western Hemisphere. .aop.
