McCormack, of Massachusetts____ 90 86 87 Biography FREDERICK VAN NUYS was born in Falmouth, Rush County, Ind., April 16, 1874; attended the public schools; was graduated from Earlham College, Richmond, Ind., in 1898 and from the Indiana Law School at Indianapolis, Ind., in 1900; was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced practice in Shelbyville, Ind., moving shortly afterward to Anderson, Ind.; served as prosecuting attorney of Madison County, Ind., 1906–1910; member of the State senate 19131916, serving as president pro tempore in 1915; moved to Indianapolis, Ind., in 1916, and continued the practice of law; chairman of the Democratic State committee 1917-1918; served as United States attorney, district of Indiana, 19201922; elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in 1932 and reelected in 1938, and served from March 4, 1933, until his death on a farm near Vienna, Fairfax County, Va., on January 25, 1944; interment in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, Ind. |
