Contingent Expenses, House of Representatires-Continued. Twenty-eight pages, while actually employed, including one riding-page, and one telegraph-page, at $2.50 each per day, and for hire of horses, $500 Postage stamps for the Clerk, $150; for the Sergeant-at-Arms, $300; and for the Postmaster, $150.

Capitol police, viz: Captain, $1,600; three lieutenants, at $1,200 each; twenty-one pri-1 vates, at $1,100 each; and six watchmen, at $900 each-in all, $33, 700; one-half to be disbursed by the Secretary of the Senate, and the other half by the Clerk of the House of Representatives.

SOUTHERN CLAIMS COMMISSION.

Salaries, Southern Claims Commission

Three commissioners, at $5,000 per annum each.

One clerk and one short-hand reporter, at $2,500 per annum each

One messenger, at $1,200 per annum....

Three additional clerks, at $1,200 per annum each

Investigation of Claims

Compensation to three investigating agents, at $6 per diem when actually employed,
say $2,160 per annum each as maximum compensation; also traveling expenses of
agents, fees and mileage to government witnesses, costs of summoning and subpœ-
naing witnesses, fees to commissioners for taking testimony, fees for abstracts and
exemplifications of public records relating to claims and claimants, &c

Contingent Expenses, Southern Claims Commission

Office-rent, furniture, fuel, stationery, printing and binding, postage and expressage, cleaning and labor, small repairs, and assistance to short-hand reporter when needed

NOTE. These estimates are calculated only to March 10, 1880, upon which date the term and functions of the Commission expire.
