By improving testing procedures for new drugs to insure their safety and efficacy prior to marketing and by the more judicious use of drugs in medical practice, the occurrences of such man-made epidemics may be prevented in the future. The public health response to DES-induced diseases must now be a political as well as a medical one, stressing public health information about the effects of DES and more effective controls of its use.
