NOTES ON PSALM LXXXV.

Verse 1. The land of Jehovah is Palestine.-The captivity of Jacob, means the captives of Jacob.

Verse 2. To cover sin means to pardon it.

Verse 4. Turn us, namely, to the way of righteousness. Verse 6. Wilt thou not revive us again, namely, to the exercise of holiness.

Verse 8. The psalmist appears to have received a gracious and supernatural communication from Jehovah.Peace means prosperity.-Folly means sin.

Verse 9. Glory here means prosperity.

Verses 10 and 11. Sentiment: every thing is full of mercy, truth, righteousness and peace.

Verses 1 and 2. The psalmist is conscious of his sincerity, at the same time that he feels his need of God's mercy.

Verse 4. Unto thee do I lift up my soul, namely, in

prayer.

Verse 8. Sentiment: Jehovah is very different from the gods of the heathen, which in reality are nothing.

Verse 9. The psalmist anticipates the future progress of true religion.

Verse 11. Thy way, i. e. the course of conduct which thou requirest.-Thy truth, i. e. the law which thou hast made known.-Unite my heart, i. e. concentrate all my energies.

Verse 13. The lowest hell, i. e. the deep recesses of hades or the future world.
