With a highly-cultivated mind Miss Tooke possessed a sincerity of character, a cheerfulness of disposition, and above all, an amiable simplicity and unaffectedness of mind, that had long endeared her to a very large circle of friends. She was on the point of returning to England, when she was seized with apoplexy on the 1st of October, under the effects of which she sunk in four days.
