An American Physician in Turkey: A Narrative of Adventures in Peace and War
These memoirs give us invaluable insights into social and political life in Turkish Armenia before 1915. They also give a detailed account of the siege of Van in 1915, when Armenian sresisted the Ottoman authorities' attempts to exterminate them. Ussher and his American compound were in the Armenian quarter, which was pounded by Ottoman artillery for several weeks. These memoirs were originally printed in 1917. The present work is an original republication.
