IS NOT EVEN A WORD AND A BLOW, AND THE BLOW FIRST,

BUT THE BLOW WITHOUT THE WORD.

IT IS LEFT FOR YOU TO FIND OUT

WHY YOUR EARS ARE BOXED.

TYPHOID AND DIPHTHERIA, BLOOD POISONS, HOUSE SANITATION.

IT T is no exaggeration to state that not one-quarter of the dwellings of all classes, high or low, rich or poor, are free from dangers to health due to defects with respect to drainage, &c., &c. These original defects will inevitably entail a loss of health and energy to the occupants of the houses, and this may go on for years working insidiously, but with deadly effect. It is painful to know that, after all that has been done of late years in the way of sanitary improvements, persons still die almost daily, POISONED by the DRAINS that should save life and not destroy it.-Sanitary Congress, Sept., 1882.

PREVENTABLE DEATH.-Why should Typhoid and Diphtheria, those twin and vile

slayers of millions of the human race, not be as much and more hunted up, and their career stopped, as the solitary wretch who causes his fellow a violent death? The murderer, as he is called, is quickly made example of by the law. Fevers are almost universally acknowledged to be preventable diseases. How is it they are allowed to level their thousands every year, and millions to suffer almost without protest? The most ordinary observer must be struck with the huge blunder. Who's to blame?

FOR the means of preventing premature death from disease, read a large illustrated sheet

given with each bottle of ENO'S FRUIT SALT-the information is invaluable. The Fruit Salt (one of nature's own products) keeps the blood pure, and is thus of itself one of the most valuable means of keeping the blood free from fevers (and blood poisons), liver complaints, &c., ever discovered. As a means of preserving and restoring health it is unequalled, and it is moreover, a pleasant, refreshing, and invigorating beverage. After a patient and careful observation of its effects when used, I have no hesitation in stating that if its great value in keeping the body healthy were universally known, not a household in the land would be without it, nor a travelling trunk or portmanteau but would contain it. I used my FRUIT SALT freely in my last attack of fever, and I have every reason to say it saved my life.-J. C. ENO.

THE PHYSICAL BASIS OF LIFE-GOOD FOOD. How to enjoy Good Food, that would otherwise cause Bilious Headache, Disordered Stomach, Poisoned Blood, &c., &c., use

ENO'S FRUIT SALT.

OREPARED from sound ripe fruit as a health-giving, cooling, sparkling, and invigorating beverage for any season. It is the best preventive and cure for biliousness, sick headache, skin eruptions, impure blood, fevers, pimples on the face, giddiness, feverishness, mental depression, want of appetite, sourness of the stomach, constipation, vomiting, thirst, &c., and to remove the effects of errors of eating and drinking.

DR. SCOTT'S MAGNETIC BRUSHES.-Headache, especially that form of the complaint which is induced by neuralgia, is one of the most distressingills that flesh is heir to." and although there have been many remedies both of a local and internal kind tried for the alleviation and cure of that extremely painful description of cephalalgia, it rarely succumbs to treatment so effectually as to leave the patient in a state of perfect ease and comfort. Electricity, however, which has worked such wonders in mechanical science, has of late years been resorted to as a curative power, and simply by adopting hair brushes of a magnetic kind some of the most vexatious and troublesome diseases have been thoroughly cured. We may take, for instance, the Electric Hair Brush. which is supplied by the Pall Mall Electric Association, Limited. These brushes, charged as they are with the "odic force," exercise the best effect upon all forms of neuralgic diseases, as well as thoroughly removing scurf and dandruff, and preventing the thinning and falling off of the hair. Headaches of a nervous kind, so frequently complained of by ladies and persons of weak constitution, are effectually warned off or cured by resorting to the use of Dr. Scott's Electric Brush. By the introduction of such mechanical remedies the health of the public will probably become greatly improved, for by a little energetic action in the way of hair brushing in the morning, not only will headaches be warded off for the day, but such a healthy action of the skin promoted, that the preservation of the hair will be ensured. The directions for the use of the brushes are simple in the extreme It is necessary only. if the patient suffers from headache and neuralgia, to brush slowly from the forehead towards the spinal column. By adopting this course of action congestion is not only unloaded, but the subtle and health-restoring "odic force" has full play. We may mention that the brushes are made of the best prime bristles (not wires!!), and that the Pall Mall Association have factories and depots at London, Paris, New York, Hamburg, Berlin, and Vienna.

From the QUEEN, September 10th, 1881.

The Pall Mall Electric Association, Limited, 21, Holborn Viaduct, London, E.C, has submitted to us the celebrated Dr. Scott's Electric Hair Brush, which is a speedy remedy for Nervous and Bilious Headache and Neuralgia, and beneficial to the hair and scalp in various ways. The Brush is well made, and of PURE BRISTLES, and extremely pleasant to use. It is accompanied by a neat little compass in a silver case, for the purpose of showing that the Electric character of the Brush is a reality. There cannot be any doubt that a current of electricity passes through it, because its action upon the needle of the compass is marked and peculiar. We find that by changing the position of the compass the needles can be made to point not only to the north, but to the east, west, and south Of its curative properties we can say it is an admirable article, and most effective.

From MYRA'S JOURNAL OF DRESS AND FASHION, Oct. 1st, 1881. Martyrs to Headache and Neuralgia are always ready to try any new means offered to them for allaying the sufferings to which they are unwilling victims. Amongst the recognised cures for these painful complaints may now be reckoned Dr. Scott's Electric Hair Brush, supplied by the Pall Mall Electric Association, Limited, 21, Holborn Viaduct, and sent post free for 12s. 6d. Each Brush is accompanied by a small Compass, and a very few experiments in passing the Brush over and around the Compass leave no doubt that it is strongly magnetic. The Handle is made of a black composition, dead in parts, but susceptible of a high degree of polish. and the bristles-which are bristles. and not wire-are also black. The Brush is used in the ordinary way, but in brushing for Headache it should be from the forehead to the back of the head, and. if possible, the brushing should be done by another person. Most people who are subject to Headache know the soothing effect of having the hair brushed, and if this Electric Brush is used, the effect is more speedy and certain. It is also a good Brush for daily use, being pleasantly hard, and, if used in conjunction with Macassar Oil, it cannot fail to keep the hair in good condition, both as to appearance and healthy growth. The Flesh Brush. upon the same principle. is very good and cheap. From the COURT JOURNAL. September 24th. 1881. The hair has always been regarded as one of the attributes of female beauty, whilst its loss can hardly be regarded with satisfaction even by the sterner sex. To woman it is her crowning glory; hence the numerous specifics and inventions offered to her for its preservation. Without offering any opinion as to the utility of the many preparations for beautifying and preserving the hair, we may at least urge that the simplest remedies are the best. It is claimed for Dr. Scott's Electric Hair Brush--and that claim is supported by numerous testimonials-that the use of this Brush will speedily cure Headache and Neuralgia, and that it will prevent the falling off of the Hair, and also arrest premature greyness. The Brush is composed of pure bristles, no wires being used. the handle being made of light composition resembling ebony. By its use an electric current is produced. which is altogether beneficial to the hair and head. The new brush is recommended by the best physicians, and has also obtained Royal and distinguished patronage. The proprietors are the Pall Mall Electric Association, Limited, 21. Holborn Viaduct, London.
