STATEMENT of the expenditures on account of sick and disabled seamen for the year 1824, their amount; and in what manner made.
WISCASSET. One seaman was provided for in the port at $250 per week, funeral expenses $ 13 75, expenditure, (including 83 57 disbursed in 1823) - BATH. A house is rented at $184, a steward and nurse employed at $ 225, and $ 109, and a physician at $500 per annum; in the last quarter of the year, the physician's compensation was reduced to $ 80, the rent of the hospital to $ 55, and $ 325 per annum al- lowed for board of all scamen PORTLAND. Sick seamen are received in private houses at $2 per week; during the second quarter of the year a contract was made with the overseers of the poor, whereby they engage to furnish board, med- ical attendance, and all necessaries, for the amount of hospital money collected in the port PORTSMOUTH. Seamen provided for in private hou- ses at $ 1, to $2 per week, 41 were received, phy- sicians charges & 183 18 NEWBURYPORT. The Collector of this port paid for the passages of three distressed seamen to the hos- pital at Boston GLOUCESTER. Supported in private houses at $2, and $2.50 per week; 7 were provided for, medicines and attendance $ 68 90 BOSTON. Received in the United States' marine hos- pital; a physician receives a salary of $1,000 per annum, a steward $ 500, nurses and labourers at va- rious rates, 373 were provided for PROVIDENCE. Accommodated in private houses at $250 per week; a physician receives a salary of $200 per annum for medicine and attendance, 48 were received, $ 8 dollars was paid for funeral expenses BRISTOL. Received in private houses at $250 per week, 16 were provided for, physician's charges $ 204 92, clothing and funeral expenses $ 21 46 NEWPORT. Supported in the Newport hospital at $2.50 per week; a physician receives a compensation of $400 per annum, for medicine and attendance, 12 were received MIDDLETOWN. Accommodated in private houses at $ 2 yer week, 8 were provided for, physician's charges 8 54 50
NEW LONDON. Received in private houses at 8 2 50 per week, a physician receives a compensation of $150 per annum, 36 were provided for NEW YORK. Seamen are boarded in the New York hospital at $ 3 per week including all charges except funeral expenses, and the salary of a Superintendent of seamen, who receives a salary of $250 per annum, 946 were provided for, funeral expenses at $5 each, $ 255 LITTLE EGG HARBOR. Paid for medical services rendered in 1823
GREAT EGG HARBOR. Seamen received in pri. vate houses at $250 to $7 dollars per week, 6 were provided for, medical attendance $97 25, extra charges and funeral expenses $ 37 94 PHILADELPHIA.
Accommodated in the Pennsylvania hospital at 40 cents per day, exclusive of clothing and funeral expenses, 330 were received, clothing $625 50, funeral expenses $ 60 BALTIMORE. Sick seamen are provided for by contract with Dr. Collin McKenzie, at 50 cents a day for all necessaries, 210 were received; included in the expenditure for the year, is $50 dollars paid for the passage of a seaman from New Orleans ANNAPOLIS. Two seamen were provided for in private houses at 50 cents per day, $ 54 paid for medical services GEORGETOWN. Received in private houses at $ 2 per week, 13 were received, medical services $ 90 97 ALEXANDRIA. Seamen are supported in the poor house at $4 per week, including all necessaries, 30 were provided for, included in the expenditure of the year is $78 56, for board and medical attendance of a sick seaman at Pensacola, paid by order of the Comptroller of the Treasury
NORFOLK. In this port there is a United States' marine hospital; a physician receives a salary of $840 per annum; a steward and nurse at $8 dollars per month each; the precise number received cannot be ascertained from the accounts
PETERSBURG. A contract has been made with Doctor Walter N. Johnston for the support, medical attendance, &c. of sick seamen in the Petersburg and Richmond districts, for $1,000 per annum, included in the expenditure of the year are disbursements made in the 4th quarter of 1823
RICHMOND. Three seamen were provided with board in private houses, at 50 cents per day, and $ 13 15 *paid for transportation of seamen TÄPPAHANNOCK. Received in private houses at $2 50 and $3 per week, 4 provided for, physician's charges $60 42, included in the expenditure for the year, is $72 28 disbursed in 1823 WILMINGTON. Accommodated in private houses at $350 per week, 21 were received, medical atten- dance $150 WASHINGTON. Provided for in private houses at $3 and $350 per week, 13 were received, physi- cian's charges $61 40, funeral expenses $ 11 EDENTON. Seamen boarded in private houses at $3 per week, 17 were provided for, medicine and attendance $87 25
CAMDEN. Received in private houses at $10 per month, 29 were accommodated, medical attendance $ 160 75
BEAUFORT. One seaman was boarded at 50 cents a day, physician's services $10 30, included in the expenditure for the year is $24 11 disbursed in 1823 PLYMOUTH. Six seamen were received in private houses at $2 per week CHARLESTON. In this port the Corporation of the city engage to furnish sick seamen with board, medi- cal attendance, and all necessaries, for the hospital money collected, amount paid to the City Treasurer including commission
SAVANNAH, Seamen provided for by contract with Daniel and Screven, with board and medical atten- dance for $2500 per annum, the number received, not stated in the accounts, $ 30 was paid for passages of seamen, and $ 32 50 for funeral expenses DARIEN. Three seamen were received in private houses at $1 per day for board, and medical atten- dance
MOBILE. Accommodated with board at $3 per week, 32 were received, physician's charges $ 200, funeral expenses at $7 each, $49 NEW ORLEANS. Provided for in the New Orleans hospital at 75 cents a day, a physician receives a compensation of $ 1000 per annum, 273 were received
PENSACOLA. Received in private houses at $ 350, to $525 per week, with extra charge for watching &c. 8 were provided; for physician's charges $678. 26 ST. AUGUSTINE. The Collector of this port paid for the passages of five seamen to their respective homes
