THIRD SERVICE.

¶ The People standing.

CAST away from you all your transgressions whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit; for why will ye die, O ye children of men?

For I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves and live. Ezekiel, xviii. 31, 32.

He that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews, xi. 6.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew, vii. 21.

Then the Minister shall say:

LET all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him: for he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast; he hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

People. He hath prepared his throne for judgment: and he shall judge the world in righteousness.

Go

Minister.

OD spake these words unto the children of Israel by the mouth of his servant Moses, and said:

I. I am the Lord thy God; thou shalt have none other Gods but me.

II. Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven image, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down to them, nor worship them, for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, and visit the sins of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, and shew mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

III. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless, that taketh his name in vain.

IV. Remember that thou keep holy the sabbath day. Six days shalt thou labour and do all that thou hast to do; but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God. In it thou shalt do no manner of work, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, thy cattle, and the stranger that is within thy gates that thy man-servant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.

:

V. Honour thy father and thy mother; that thy days may be long in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. VI. Thou shalt do no murder.

VII. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
VIII. Thou shalt not steal.

IX. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

X. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his servant, nor his maid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour's.

HEAR also what our Lord Jesus Christ saith to his disciples:

"The first of all commandments is, Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first commandment: and the second is like unto it, namely this; thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. There is none other commandment greater than these." Mark, xii. 29, 30, 31. Matt. xxii. 38, 39, 40.

People. Lord, have mercy upon us, and write thy laws in our hearts, we beseech thee.

Introductory Prayer.

LET thy merciful ears, O Lord, be open to the prayers of thy servants; and that we may obtain our petitions, teach us, at all times, to ask such things as shall please thee; and grant that those things which we ask faithfully, we may obtain effectually, for thy mercy's sake in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Faith in Christ.

ALMIGHTY God, who hast called us with a holy calling, grant us so perfectly and without all doubt, to believe in thy Son Jesus Christ, as the way, the truth, and the life, that we may be established in the truth of thy gospel, and our faith in thy sight may never be reproved. May we forsake all covetous desires, inordinate love of riches, and carnal affections; forthwith give up ourselves obediently to fulfil thy holy commandments; and steadfastly walk in the way that leadeth to eternal life. Amen.

For the Imitation of Christ.

GOD, whose blessed Son was manifested, that he might take away our sins, and make us the sons of God and the heirs of eternal life; grant, we pray thee, that having this hope, we may purify ourselves even as he is pure. In every time of difficulty and temptation, may we steadfastly look up to heaven, and by faith behold the glory that shall be revealed; that so, having followed the example of our Saviour's humility, patience, and obedience, we may at length become partakers of his resurrection,
