B. That the end of our lives may be Christian, without pain, without confusion, peaceful, and that we may have a good account to render before the dread tribunal of Christ, let us ask the Lord.

P. Grant this, O Lord.

B. Asking for the unity of faith, and the fellow

ship of the Holy Spirit, let us commend ourselves and one another and all our lives to Christ our God. P. To thee, O Lord.

B. For thou art good, and a Lover of mankind, O God, and to thee we render the glory; to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: now and ever, world without end. Amen.

E praise thee, we glorify thee, we bless thee, we give thanks unto thee, God of our fathers; because thou hast made the shades of the night to pass away, and hast enabled us again to see the light of the morning. And we beseech thee, of thy goodness, to have mercy upon us sinners, and, in thy, great compassion, to accept our prayers; for in thee do we take our refuge, O merciful and almighty God. Cause the true sun of thy righteousness to rise upon our hearts; lighten our understanding; keep all our affections so that, having walked in the way of thy commandments honestly as in the day, we may attain unto everlasting life (for with thee is the fountain of life), and be made worthy of thine inaccessible light. For thou art our God, and to thee we render the glory; to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: now and ever, world without end. Amen.

HOU, who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplications unto thee, and hast promised, that when two or three are gathered together in thy name, thou wilt grant their requests; fulfil now

the petitions of thy servants, as may be most expedient for them, granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting.

EMIT, pardon, forgive, O God, our sins, voluntary and involuntary; of deed and of word, of knowledge and of ignorance; our sins of day and night, the sins of our thoughts and intentions. Forgive them all, for thou art good, and a Lover of mankind.

THE ORDER FOR

PUBLIC SERVICE ON SUNDAYS,

AND ON THOSE DAYS FOR WHICH PROPER GOSPELS ARE APPOINTED.

In the beginning of the Service, the bishop and the people stand up, and the bishop reads one or more of the following sentences of the Holy Scriptures: ACKNOWLEDGE my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Psalm li. 3. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

Psalm li. 9. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Psalm li. 17.

Enter not into judgment with thy servant, O Lord; for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. Psalm cxliii. 2.

O Lord, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing. Jer. Psalm vi. 1.

x. 24.

When the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. Ezek. xviii. 27.

To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him :

neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his laws which he set before us. Dan. ix. 9, 10.

Rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. Joel ii. 13. Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. St. Matt. iii. 2.

I will arise, and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. St. Luke xv. 18, 19.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us: but, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. John i. 8, 9.

saying:

EARLY beloved brethren, the Scripture. moveth us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and

wickedness; and that we should not dissemble nor cloke them before the face of Almighty God our heavenly Father; but confess them with an humble, lowly, penitent, and obedient heart; to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy. And although we ought at all times humbly to acknowledge our
