God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

Thou shalt not kill.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Thou shalt not steal.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

LORD, have mercy upon us, and write all these thy laws in our hearts, we beseech thee.

Then the bishop reads one or two portions of the Holy Scriptures; and that at his choice, except on the following days, for which proper Epistles or Lessons, and Gospels are appointed:

D

ASCENSION Day.

Acts i. 1-14, and Matthew xxviii. 16-20.

WHIT SUNDAY.

Acts ii., and John xv. 23-xvi. 15.

After which, the bishop gives notice to the people of all that they have to know about the Order of the Church, and especially what is to take place during the day, or the following week, and the following Sunday; such as Baptisms, Ordinations, Marriages, Excommunications, Fast Days, and special meetings for the Lord's Supper, or other purpose.

And if there is to be a Baptism, or Ordination, or Marriage, it is most proper that it should take place at this moment, in presence of the Church canonically assembled.

If a Baptism has taken place, the Creed of Nicaa and Constantinople, having been recited during its celebration, needs not be repeated. But if there has been no Baptism, the bishop reads the Creed, saying:

BELIEVE in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one

Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds; Light of light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one essence with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven; and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, and was buried; and the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into Heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end. And in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of life; who proceedeth from the Father; who, with the Father and the Son together, is worshiped and glorified; who spake by the Prophets. And one Holy Catholick and Apostolic Church. I acknowledge one Baptism for the Remission of sins. And I look for the Resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

After the Creed comes the Sermon, or, if no bishop be present, a reading from some useful and religious book.

The bishop then reads one or more of the following

sentences:
