THE BEGGAR's PETITION,

My daughter, once the comfort of my age,
Lur'd by a villain from her native home,
Is caft abandon'd on the world's wide stage,
And dcom'd in fcanty poverty to roam.

My tender wife, fweet foother of my care!
Struck with fad anguish at the ftern decree,
Fell, ling'ring fell, a victim to despair,

And left the world to wretchednefs and me.

[blocks in formation]

Whofe trembling limbs have borne him to your door, Whose days are dwindled to the shortest span,

Oh! give relief, and Heaven will bless your store,

MENDICI SUPPLICATIO.

Cara fenectutis folamen filia quondam,

Illa domo quodam nativâ allecta fcelefto,
Per latum lacrymans mundum deferta vagatur,
Anguftam paupertatem et perferre coacta.

Participare meam conjux tenera anxia curam,
Decreto trifti percuffa angore fevero,

Paulatim periit, periit pia victima luctus,
Ærumnæ, mihi morentique reliquit et orbem.

Pauperis atque fenis mæfti miterefce dolorum, Adduxere domum fua membra trementia veftram, Nam finem mifera ufque extremum vita propinquat, O præbe auxilium, Dominus gazafque beabit.

FINIS.
