PART I.-General Information.

Forwarding Express Shipments.

See that the package or box is carefully packed, and, if a package, wrapped in strong paper and securely tied. If a box, nail the cover on tightly.

Packing.

Mark the address plainly on the wrapper of package or on the cover of the box. If a box, never tack a card Marking. on for the address, for in many instances the card gets torn off, and the identity of the shipment is destroyed.

Mark the box or package on only one side. If marked on more than one side, the express company will be obliged to erase all the marks on other than one side in order to facilitate the handling of the shipment. This is important, and will save you time and the express company trouble.

See that your own or the shipper's name appears on the cover of the shipment in the upper left-hand corner. In the event of the express company being unable to deliver your shipment, you will receive notice of this fact, and can then give the necessary instructions regarding the disposition of the shipment. All instructions regarding the disposition of a shipment must be given to the express agent at point from which the shipment is originally forwarded. This is important, and if kept in mind, will greatly facilitate the delivery of your shipments in the event of their going astray.

When you have your shipment ready, call the express company on the telephone, stating to them that you Shipping. wish to forward a shipment to a certain place, requesting them to call for the same. If you reside outside the limit of the express company's delivery, it will be

necessary for you to call at the express office with your shipment, or secure a local expressman to deliver it for you.

Be sure and see that you receive a receipt from the express company for your shipment. This receipt will be issued on a regular form used by the express company, and it is of the utmost importance that this receipt be preserved. In the event of the shipment being lost or going astray, this receipt will be of great assistance in tracing.

As per the form of the express company's contract on their receipt, their liability is limited to the amount of fifty ($50.00) dollars, unless the shipper declares value to a greater amount at the time of shipment.

Express Company's
Liability.

Advantage to Shippers in Declaring Value.

Shippers will find it to be to their advantage to declare the value of their shipments. The extra charge for valuation by the express company applies only on shipments valued at over fifty dollars ($50.00). The charge for extra valuation assessed by the express company is reasonable, and, it insures your shipment for the amount declared. In the event of the loss of your shipment, as per the conditions of their contract, the express company will pay you for full amount of value declared.

Example of where value is NOT declared by shipper: You ship a package worth seventy-five dollars ($75.00), and when the expressman calls for the shipment, and the receipt is issued, you fail to declare its value. Under these conditions, the receipt is issued stamped "Value Asked, Not Given," and the express company is liable to the amount of fifty dollars ($50.00) on the shipment. It develops that your package is lost and the express company is unable to deliver it. You
