Excerpt from The Chiltern Hundreds

We probably only associate the name of the Chilterns With high chalk-downs, and deep coombes dotted With ancient box-trees; With smiling valleys Whose sides are clothed With beech-woods, and With breezy uplands, from Which we look down on the rich plains of the Thames and the Coln. But the Chilterns give a name also to other portions of the fair county of Buckingham besides those parts Which are actually covered by the rolling downs them selves, for the three Hundreds With Which we are concerned Spread not only over the hills after Which they are call ed, but over the low lying plains at their feet as well.
