Ordered, That the Clerk acquaint the Senate therewith.

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole, on the bill supplementary to an act entitled, "An act to authorize the State of Tennessee to issue grants and perfect titles to certain lands therein described, and to settle the claims to the vacant and unappropriated lands within the same; and on the bill from the Senate, to authorize the State of Tennessee to issue grants and perfect titles on certain entries and locations of land therein described; and after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Hugh Nelson, reported the said bill with an amendment, which was read and concurred in by the House: And

On motion of Mr. Smith, of Md.

The said bill was ordered to lie upon the table. The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole, on the bill making appropriations for the payment of certain claims for militia services to the State of Georgia; to which committee of the whole House, was also committed, the bill from the Senate of the same title; and after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Smith, of Md. reported progress and asked leave for the committee of the whole House to sit again.

The question was taken-" Shall the committee of the whole House have leave to sit again?" And determined in the negative.

Ordered, That the said bills lie on the table. Ordered, That the committee of the whole House, to which is committed the bill for the relief of John Bate, be discharged from the consideration thereof.

The House took up the said bill, amended the same; and ordered it to lie on the table.

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole, on the bill for the relief of Henry Lee; and after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Desha reported the said bill without amendment.

A motion was made by Mr. Condict to lay the said bill on the table; which motion was disagreed to by the House.

Ordered, That the said bill be engrossed and read a third time on Monday next.

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole, on the bill from the Senate entitled, "An act to amend and explain an act giving pensions to the widows and orphans of persons slain in the public and private armed vessels of the United States; and after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Desha reported the same without amendment.

Ordered, That the said bill be read a third time on Monday next.

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole, on the bill respecting the compensation of certain collectors therein mentioned; and after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Desha reported the same with amendments, which were read and concurred in by the House

The said bill was further amended, and ordered to be engrossed and read a third time on Monday

next.

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole, on the bill authorizing the payment of a sum of money to the State of Georgia, under the articles of agreement and cession between the United States and that State; and after some time

spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Hugh Nelson reported the same with amendments, which were read and concurred in by the House, and the bill was ordered to be engrossed and read a third time on Monday next

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole on the bill authorizing the payment of a sum of money to Teakle Savage and others; and after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Desha reported the same without amendment.

Ordered, That the said bill be engrossed and read a third time on Monday next.

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole on the bill to regulate the trade in plaster of Paris; and after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. H. Nelson reported the same without amendment.

A motion was then made by Mr. Little to lay the said bill on the table; which motion was disagreed to by the House.

Ordered, That the said bill be engrossed and read a third time on Monday next.

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole on the bill authorizing the payment of a sum of money to Nathaniel Seavey and others; and after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. H. Nelson reported the same without amendment.

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole on the bill to alter and establish certain post-roads; and after some time spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Smith, of Md., reported the same with amendments; which were read and concurred in by the House.

Ordered, That the said bill be engrossed and read a third time on Monday next.

Ordered, That the committee of the whole House, to which is committed the bill from the Senate, entitled, "An act to incorporate the subscribers to certain banks in the District of Columbia, and to prevent the circulation of the notes of unchartered associations within the said district," be discharged, and that the said bill be referred te Mr. Lewis, Mr. Gaston, and Mr. Calhoun. And then the House adjourned.

MONDAY, March 3d, 1817.

The Speaker presented a petition of James Robert, Henry I. I. Robert, and the children of Peter L Robert, heirs and representatives of Peter Dominick Robert, deceased, praying for a confirmation of their titles to certain tracts of land in the Territory of Illinois; which was ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Barbour from the committee on Public Expenditures, made a detailed report concerning their powers and duties, and the subjects of their inquiries during the present session; which was read and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Taul, from the committee for Enrolled Bills, reported that the committee had examined enrolled bills of the following titles, to wit:

An act directing the discharge of William Smith from imprisonment;

An act for the relief of the legal representatives of Francis Cazeau, late merchant at Montreal; An act to provide for reports of the decisions of the supreme court;

An act to set apart and dispose of certain public lands for the encouragement of the cultivation of the vine and olive;

An act to provide for the due execution of the laws of the United States within the State of Indiana;

An act to provide for the punishment of crimes and offences committed within the Indian boundaries;

An act to provide for the prompt settlement of public accounts;

An act making appropriations for the support of government for the year 1817;

An act to set apart and pledge certain funds for internal improvements;

An act to amend the act authorizing the payment for property lost, captured, or destroyed by the enemy while in the military service of the United States, and for other purposes, passed the 9th April, 1816; and had found the samne to be truly enrolled: When

The Speaker signed the said bills.

Ordered, That the Clerk acquaint the Senate therewith.

Mr. Lewis from the committee to which was referred the bill from the Senate, entitled "An act to incorporate the subscribers to certain banks within the District of Columbia, and to prevent the circulation of the notes of unchartered associations within the said District," reported the same without amendment.

The House then proceeded to consider the said bill: When

A motion was made by Mr. Webster to strike out the 28th section thereof; which motion was rejected by the House.

Another motion was then made by Mr Webster, to amend the said bill by striking out from the 7th line of the first section the words "thirty-six," so as to leave blank the year to which it is proposed
