AT the Court at Windsor, the 4th day of January, 1853.

PRESENT,

The QUEEN's Most Excellent Majesty in Council.

THIS day the Most Noble George Douglas Duke of Argyll and the Right Honourable John Robert Viscount Sydney were, by Her Majesty's command, sworn of Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council, and took their respective places at the Board accordingly.

Her Majesty having been pleased to deliver the custody of the Privy Seal to the Most Noble George Douglas Duke of Argyll, the oath of Keeper of the Privy Seal was this day administered to him, and his Grace took his place at the Board accordingly..

Her Majesty in Council was this day pleased to declare the Right Honourable Edward Granville, Earl of St. Germans, Lieutenant-General, and General-Governor of that part of the United Kingdom, called Ireland.

Her Majesty in Council was this day pleased to appoint the Right Honourable Edward John Lord

Stanley of Alderley, President of the Committee of Council appointed for the consideration of all matters relating to Trade and Foreign Plantations, in the absence of the President of the said Committee for the time being.

The QUEEN's Most Excellent Majesty in Council.

HER Majesty in Council was this day pleased to appoint the Right Honourable the Lord President of the Council for the time being; the Most Noble the Duke of Argyll, Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal; the Most Honourable the Marquis of Lansdowne; the Right Honourable the Earl of Aberdeen, First Lord Commissioner of Her Majesty's Treasury; the Right Honourable John Russell (commonly called Lord John Russell), and the Right Honourable Viscount Palmerston, two of Her Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State; the Right Honourable Sidney Herbert, Her Majesty's Secretary at War; and the Right Honourable William Ewart Gladstone, Chancellor and Under Treasurer of Her Majesty's Exchequer, to be a Committee of Council to superintend the application of any sums voted by Parliament for the purpose of promoting public education.

The Queen has been pleased to direct letters patent to be passed under the Great Seal, appointing the Right Honourable Charles John, Viscount Canning, to be Postmaster-General.

His Royal Highness Prince Albert has been pleased to appoint the Right Honourable George Byng, Viscount Torrington, to be a Lord in Waiting to His Royal Highness, vice Lord Mandeville, resigned.

The Queen has been pleased, on the nomination of the Right Honourable Lord Foley, to appoint Samuel Hobson, Esq., late Captain of Her Majesty's 10th Regiment of Foot, one of Her Majesty's Honourable Corps of Gentlemen-atArms, vice Roach, retired.
