[24] B. Interstate movement (kilowatt-hours) on the basis of imports to consumed,

[blocks in formation]

1 Includes 17,754,642 kilowatt-hours by nonaffiliated companies. Includes 36, 100 kilowatt-hours by a nonaffiliated company. * Includes 937,836 kilowatt-hours by nonaffiliated companies. [25] Energy metered and estimated.-All energy was metered in both 1929 and 1930, with two small exceptions. In 1929 an amount of 565,196 kilowatt-hours was estimated, and in 1930 an amount of 641,579 kilowatt-hours. However, both of these amounts were duplicate movements, and thus the net interstate movement for the group was entirely metered.

Description of interstate transmission lines.-Subsidiaries in the Midland United Co. group operated 28 transmission lines across 4 State boundaries in 1929, as follows:

Indiana-Ohio.......
Indiana-Illinois_

Indiana-Kentucky.
Indiana-Michigan..

Eleven of these lines, the largest number operated by any single company in the group, were reported by the Interstate Public Service Co.

Operating voltages during this year ranged from 1,500 to 132,000 with lines operated at 33,000 volts in advance of all others, 11 lines at this voltage having been reported.

In 1930 lines operated increased to 30, but boundaries crossed remained the same, as listed below:

Indiana-Ohio...

Indiana-Illinois.

Indiana-Kentucky.

Indiana-Michigan.

3043

Operation of the most lines by a single company was recorded by the Public Service Co. of Indiana which reported 12. This company, however, succeeded the Interstate Public Service Co. which operated the most lines in 1929.

Voltage range of the lines was from 2,300 to 132,000 with the 33,000-voltage lines leading again, with 9 reported, which is, however, a reduction of 2 under the previous year.

The following tabular statements list, for 1929 and 1930 detailed information regarding each of the lines reported.

SECTION 2. GAS PROPERTIES

Companies reporting. In addition to the electrical properties of the Midland United group, the company's subsidiaries operate gas properties. Gas operations of the Midland United group are concentrated in the State of Indiana, although several other States are served.

Companies reporting to the Commission in 1930 are as follows:

Attica Electric Co.

The Delphos Gas Co.

Gary Heat, Light & Water Co.
Greencastle Gas & Electric Co.
Indiana By Product Gas Co.
Indiana Gas Light Co.

Kokomo Gas & Fuel Co.

Northern Indiana Power Co.

Northern Indiana Public Service Co.

Public Service Co. of Indiana.
Rochester Gas & Fuel Co.

Wabash Valley Electric Co.

West Ohio Gas Co.

Of these 13 companies, only 3 were engaged in the interstate transmission of gas during the year 1930, the other companies doing a purely intrastate business. Gas produced and purchased.-Operating companies of the Midland United Co. group produced, in the two States of Indiana and Ohio, a total quantity of 5,401,837.4 M cubic feet of manufactured and 11,358.0 M cubic feet of natural gas in 1930. During the same period the companies purchased 9,501,436.7 M cubic feet of manufactured gas which, however, includes 3,342,181.3 M cubic feet purchased from affiliated companies. Deduction of the latter figure gives a net total of 6,159,255.4 M cubic feet of manufactured gas purchased. A net total of 403,098.0 M cubic feet of natural gas was purchased from other companies. These quantities produce a total of 11,561,092.8 M cubic feet of manufactured gas and a total of 414,456.0 M cubic feet of natural gas, or a total available of 11,975,548.8 M cubic feet for both kinds of gas.

[31] The largest producer of manufactured gas was the Northern Indiana Public Service Co., which produced 4,302,518.2 M cubic feet.

Table 5, following, shows the quantities of gas produced and procured and the total available, by States, and by companies, during 1930.
