of my body and the faculties of my mind; they have been instruments of my evil thoughts and purposes, and servants to uncleanness and to iniquity.] But especially, O God, with bitter contrition I bewail those things which are the present burden of my heart and conscience, and of which I have specially made mention to Thy priest. [Here may be introduced the particulars of those things which have been confessed.] I remember these things before Thee with shame and confusion of face, and do seek Thy pardon, crying out unto Thee, "God be merciful to me a sinner. For all my sins and transgressions, mine iniquities and offences, which in Thy grace Thou bringest to my remembrance, I abhor myself, and cast myself upon Thy mercy; and those which, through my ignorance or carelessness, my foolishness, or the darkness of my heart through sin, I remember not or think not of, but which Thou, who knowest all secrets, seest that I have committed against Thee, do Thou forgive, and cleanse me from them all, for Thy mercy's sake, O Lord. Hear me for the sake of Jesus Christ, who hath died upon the cross for my sins, and is risen again for my justification, and who now abideth before Thee, making intercession for me. Amen, and Amen.

If the Priest offer this Confession in the name of the
Penitent, he may do it in the following form:

FATHER Lorth

ATHER Almighty, Lord of heaven and earth,

Thy servant confesseth unto Thee [in this Thy holy place], by the lips of me Thine unworthy servant and minister of Thy Gospel, all his sins whatsoever, which he hath committed, &c.

After the Confession the Priest shall proceed to pronounce Absolution, as follows:

IF

F we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Then extending his right hand over the head of the
Penitent:

A

LMIGHTY GOD, the Redeemer and Saviour of mankind, who gave unto His apostles the power, that whosesoever sins they should remit, should be remitted, and whatsoever they should loose on earth, should be loosed in heaven; Remove from thee His wrath, and deliver thee from eternal damnation, which Thou hast justly deserved; Grant unto thee the forgiveness of thy sins through the blood of Jesus Christ shed for remission of sin, and loose thee from the yoke and burden of them; Restore thee unto the grace of His salvation, and enable thee by His Spirit to persevere in His perfect fear and love, and in obedience to His holy will, that thou mayest be received to His everlasting kingdom in the resurrection of the just.

¶ Then putting his hands upon the head of the Penitent:

THE

THE Almighty and most merciful Lord God grant unto thee, through the ministry of me, His unworthy servant, full absolution and remission of all thy sins, iniquities, and transgressions, and blot them out for ever. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Then the Priest shall offer the following Prayer:

Let us pray.

MOST merciful God, who according to the multitude of Thy mercies dost so put away

the sins of those who truly repent, that Thou rememberest them no more; Regard with Thine eye of mercy this Thy servant, who hath sought Thy pardon and forgiveness. Renew in him, most loving Father, whatsoever hath been decayed or corrupted through his own carnal will or frailty, or by the fraud and malice of the devil. Preserve and keep him henceforth in the unity of Thy holy Church, and strengthen him continually with Thy Divine and Life-giving Spirit. Restore unto him the joy of Thy salvation and the light of Thy countenance, that he may abide Thy faithful servant unto everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, O Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever One God, world without end. R. Amen.

GOD

OD the Father bless thee; God the Son preserve thee; God the Holy Ghost enlighten and sanctify thee. Christ the Son of God keep thy

body, save thy soul, and guide thee unto life eternal. Peace be with thee. Go in peace, and sin no more.

R. Amen.

The Form of Benediction of Houses.

The Priest, habited in surplice and stole, and
standing within the outer door, shall say,

EACE be to this house, and to all that
shall dwell in it.

Bless, O Lord, this house, and those who shall inhabit it. Bless those that

fear Thee, both small and great. Be ye blessed of the Lord that made heaven and earth.

Behold, waters issued from under the threshold of the house eastward. And the waters came down from under, from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar.

And he said unto me, It shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live.

LMIGHTY and most merciful Father, who didst show, in vision, unto Thy prophet Ezekiel, the saving health, which was afterwards to come forth from Thy holy dwelling-place unto all who should seek Thy salvation; Grant unto Thy servant, who with his household waiteth upon Thee, and imploreth Thy blessing on this house, the answer of peace, and pour out upon him the abundance of Thy consolations and the grace of Thy heavenly benediction; through Jesus Christ our Lord; Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, O Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever One God, world without end.

R. Amen.

Then proceeding to some principal room of the house, the service shall proceed as follows:

ESUS said unto Zaccheus, Zaccheus, make haste and come down; for to-day I must abide at And he made haste, and came down, and received Him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, that He was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. And Zaccheus stood, and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything from any man, I restore him fourfold. And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Show us Thy mercy, O Lord;

Lord, hear our prayer;

Our help standeth in the name of the Lord;
