of Deacon, and hast ordained that, as heads and representatives of Thy flock, they should be set before Thine apostles, that they and Thy flock in them may receive Thy blessing; We beseech Thee to give unto us all such faith in Thy holy word and ordinances, that we may not fail to receive the fulness of that grace and benediction which Thou, in faithfulness to Thy promise, waitest to bestow. Hear us for the sake of Jesus Christ, to whom, with Thee and the Holy Ghost, be glory for ever.

R. Amen.

The Apostle shall go down to them and place his right hand on each, and say,

THE Holy Ghost rest upon thee, and the power

of the Highest keep Thee. In the Name of the Lord.

God the Father bless thee, God the Son be thy salvation, God the Holy Ghost be thy light and thy sanctification. The Lord God Almighty seal and confirm thee to be His faithful servant and minister even unto the end.

After which, extending his hand over all of them,

| OD ALMIGHTY, the Father, the Son, and the

GHoly Ghost, be with you.

R. Amen.

A

Let us pray.

LMIGHTY and most merciful Father, pour down upon these Thy Deacons, whom we have blessed in Thy thrice holy Name, [and upon the flock and congregation committed to their vigilance,]

the fulness of Thy heavenly grace and benediction; of Thy mercy confirm in them those gifts, which in their admission to their ministry Thou didst bestow; and evermore sanctify them unto Thyself; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee, O Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever One God, world without end.

R. Amen.

¶ Then shall follow the Anthem.

Bless the Lord, ye His angels, &c. [as in the Order for admitting Deacons, but adding Hallelujah.]

The Gospel [John, xiii. 13–17].

"Jesus said unto His disciples, Ye call, &c."

In the Prayer of Oblation (after Consecration).

our prayers. Especially commending unto Thee these Thy deacons, whom we have blessed in Thy Name; conserve in them, we beseech Thee, Thy gifts of grace; establish them by Thy quickening Spirit; sanctify and confirm them evermore by Thy heavenly benediction: that they may hold fast their profession without wavering, finish their course with joy, and of Thy mercy receive a full reward in Thine eternal and glorious kingdom.

R. Amen.

The Communion Anthem.

RAISE the Lord, O Jerusalem :

PR

Praise thy God, O Zion.

For He hath strengthened the bars of thy gates:
He hath blessed thy children within thee.
He maketh peace in thy borders:

And filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.

The Order for the Drdaining
of Priests.

On the day and at the time appointed, the Apostle, with the other three Ministers, shall kneel before the altar, and, after prayer, the Apostle shall say the following Collect:

Let us pray.

REVENT us, O Lord, in all our doings, with Thy most gracious favour, and further us with Thy continual help; that in all our works begun, continued, and ended, in Thee, we may glorify Thy holy Name, and finally by Thy mercy attain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

R. Amen.

Then the Apostle and Ministers with him shall go to the seats to be provided for them in the sanctuary.

The Psalms [Ps. c. and ci.].

The Lesson [Leviticus, viii.].

¶ After the Lesson, the Angel, with the permission of the Apostle, shall present those called to be Priests at the foot of the sanctuary, and shall say,

N the Name of the One Holy, Catholic, and

Church and Congregation [or, of the Church of God

in N.], I present these brethren according to the word of the Holy Ghost which hath gone before upon them, that they may be ordained to the priesthood.

T The Apostle shall say,

Are you satisfied that they are good, holy, and faithful men, well instructed in the truth, learned in the Scriptures, and fit and worthy of this holy office?

R. To the best of my knowledge, judgment, and persuasion, I believe them so to be [or, It appears so from the certificates thereof here present].

Apostle. We give thanks unto the Lord.

¶ The Apostle shall then direct the Angel to read over audibly the Names of the Candidates, and when any are brought up from another Church, he shall direct the proper Certificates to be also read; afterwards he shall address the Congregation to the following effect:

EARLY beloved in the Lord,

DE

Almighty God, who hath called us together into His holy Church, hath given unto us all, both those whom He hath set in places of authority, and those whom He calleth to be under obedience, our common interests in the welfare of that blessed society, whereof He hath made us members; and we have also common perils against which to guard. Therefore it hath ever been the practice of the Church, that, in the ordination of those who shall minister at the altar, the people also shall have opportunity to express their voice; and it is good and fitting that this practice should be continued, that we may be helped in our judgment by your knowledge and observation of those who may be

presented for admission to this holy office. And although we have a good report both of the capacity and of the past conduct and worthiness of these servants of the Lord, who have been severally called of the Holy Ghost to the office of the priesthood, yet, for the more exact knowledge of their fitness, we now call upon you, that if any of you know any reason or impediment, because of which any of these persons, whose names ye have just heard read, ought not to be ordained to the holy priesthood, he do come forward and make it known.

If there be no objection made, then, after a sufficient pause, the Apostle shall address those presented to the following effect:

EARLY beloved brethren,

DE

It is now my part solemnly and for the last time, before the irrevocable act, which shall lay upon you the burden and responsibility of the priesthood, shall be accomplished, to remind you how great is the dignity of this office, and how weighty are the duties to be performed by those ordained thereto. It will be your duty, at the bidding of the Angel, to baptize; to absolve the penitent offenders from their sins; and to offer unto God on behalf of the people the sacrifice which Christ hath instituted, the holy bread of everlasting life, and the cup of eternal salvation. It will be your calling, according to the border of your ministry, to wait upon and serve the Church, which is the spouse of Jesus Christ, His body mystical; to offer before Him the prayers and supplications of His people; and to feed, to instruct, and to watch over and guide, the sheep and lambs of His flock, whom He hath purchased with His own blood.
