The Psalm [Ps. lxxxiv.].

After the Psalm, the Apostle shall go to the place of intercession; and the three Ministers shall kneel in a line behind him. The Evangelist and Pastor shall recite the Litany down to the end of the Versicles before the Lord's Prayer.

After the Suffrage for Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, the following shall be introduced:

TH

HAT it may please Thee to hear our prayers, and to bless, sanctify, and consecrate this Church and Altar, to the glory of Thy holy Name, and to the blessing and edifying of this people, and of Thy whole Church;

R. We beseech Thee to hear us, good Lord.

The Apostle shall proceed with the Litany, from the Lord's Prayer to the Prayer of St. Chrysostom. Then the Prophet shall offer the Thanksgiving, as set forth in the Office for Morning Prayer. T The Collects.

OUCHSAFE, O Lord, of Thine infinite goodness, to come into Thy temple, and make unto Thyself a perpetual abode in the hearts of Thy faithful people: and grant that this house, which Thou hast taken to be

Thine by solemn consecration, may ever abide Thy holy dwelling-place; through Jesus Christ our Lord. R. Amen.

MOST merciful God, who by Thy holy pro

phet didst foretell that Thy Name should be great among the Gentiles, and that in every place incense and a pure offering should be offered unto Thy Name; Who hast taught us by Thy wellbeloved Son, that the hour is come wherein the true worshippers must worship Thee, in every place, in spirit and in truth; Grant, we beseech Thee, that we may continually offer unto Thee pure sacrifices, and true and reasonable worship in the Holy Ghost, and may never wander from Thy most blessed Truth, even from the true Shepherd Jesus Christ our Lord; who liveth and reigneth with Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, One God, world without end. R. Amen.

The Epistle [2 Cor. v. 1-5].

The Anthem after the Epistle.

NE thing have I desired of the Lord:
That will I seek after;

That I may dwell in the house of the Lord:

All the days of my life,

To behold the beauty of the Lord:

And to inquire in His temple.

For in the time of trouble:

He shall hide me in His pavilion:

In the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me:

He shall set me upon a rock.

Therefore will I offer in His tabernacle sacrifices

of joy;

I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord. Hallelujah.

The Gospel [John ii. 13–17].

Jesus went up to Jerusalem, and found, &c.

In the Preface.

One God and One Lord.

Glorious art Thou, Lord God Almighty, in the ineffable effulgence of that abode in light, unto which no man can approach to behold Thy majesty. Glorious art Thou, and ever to be praised, in the revelation of Thyself in the face of Jesus Christ; Who is the brightness of Thy glory, and the express image of Thy person; God, evermore manifest in created flesh; Man, the perpetual dwelling-place of God. Glorious art Thou, and ever to be worshipped, in Thy holy Church, the body of Thy Christ, the temple of the Holy Ghost. Glorious art Thou, and ever to be feared, in all the congregations of Thy people; for where two or three are gathered together in the Name and under the mediation of

Jesus Christ, there Thou art present, and there Thou art to be adored. Glorious, above all, shall be the manifestation of Thy glory, in that day when the holy city, new Jerusalem, shall come down out of heaven, adorned as a bride for her husband: wherein is no temple, for Thou, Lord God Almighty, and the Lamb, are the temple of it; wherein there is no need of the sun nor of the moon, for Thy glory shall enlighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

Meanwhile in expectation of that glory, throughout the assemblies of Thy saints, we magnify and praise Thee, mighty God, &c.

In the Prayer of Oblation (after Consecration).

our prayers. Especially at this time, we pray Thee, O Lord, be present continually unto the prayers of this Thy people; be present unto their sacraments; be present and accept their labours and service of love, who have built [or, provided] this temple to Thy glory; be present unto us who implore Thy mercy and grace upon them. Let Thy Holy Spirit in His manifold gifts descend and rest upon all who assemble in this house, upon which we do place Thy Name, consecrating it to Thy perpetual worship, honour, and praise. O blessed and holy God, who makest all things pure, who givest unto all their beauty and their fitness; O blessed Majesty of God Most High, which fillest all, which containest all, which disposest all; O God, Most Holy, we Thine unworthy servants, humbling ourselves before Thee, implore Thy clemency, that this Church, which in all humility we have dedicated and do consecrate to Thee, as of our bounden duty and service, may ever by Thee be hallowed and consecrated, and kept with Thy perpetual presence and the fulness of Thy holiness, to be Thy temple, a house of prayer for all people. Here let Thy priests be accepted in offering unto Thee the sacrifices of praise; here let Thy faithful people perform their Vows. Here let the chain of sins be loosed and put away, and Thy children overtaken in a fault be dismissed in peace, that they may sin no more. Here let the saving power of Thy Spirit be bestowed, that the sick may be healed, the infirm recovered, the lame made whole, the lepers cleansed, the blind receive their sight, and devils be cast out. Here may the weak be strengthened, and the widow and the mourner, the desolate and the oppressed, receive

again the light of Thy joy, and the consolation of Thy peace: that all, who shall here seek Thee in faith, may receive the desire of their hearts, and may make their continual boast in Thee, whose mercy endureth for ever.

R. Amen.

The Communion Anthem.

IVE unto the Lord, O ye mighty:

Give unto the Lord glory and strength.

Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His Name:
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
The Lord sitteth upon the flood:

Yea, the Lord sitteth King for ever.

The Lord will give strength unto His people:
The Lord will bless His people with peace.

Form of Consecrating the Altar, etc., when the Building cannot be Consecrated.

At the appointed time, the Apostle and Ministers with him, and the Angel and Ministers of the Church, shall proceed in order before the entrance of the choir. Then, kneeling down, the Apostle shall say the Introductory Collect.

Let us pray.

REVENT us, O Lord, in all our doings, with Thy most gracious favour, and further us with Thy continual help; that in all our works begun, continued,
