and ended, in Thee, we may glorify Thy holy Name, and finally by Thy mercy attain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

R. Amen.

Our help standeth in the Name of the Lord:

R. Who made heaven and earth.
Blessed be the Name of the Lord:
R. From henceforth, even for ever.
Lord, hear our prayer;

R. And let our cry come unto Thee.
The Lord be with you;

R. And with thy spirit.

[ocr errors]

Let us pray.

ALMIGHTY and Eternal God, Thou art

greatly to be feared in the assembly of Thy saints, and to be had in honour of all those that are round about Thee. Thou didst reveal Thy glorious presence unto the patriarchs, that they might worship before Thy face, and call upon Thy Name. Thou didst appoint unto Thy people Israel a place and an altar where they might pay their vows, might present unto Thee Thine ordained sacrifices and offerings, and might receive Thy blessing. now that Thou gatherest Thine elect out of all nations, baptizing them unto the adoption of sons, and making them very members of the mystical body of Thy Christ, Thou hast given unto them an altar of which none other have a right to eat, and hast appointed unto them also holy rites and a pure sacrifice.

And

[And this Thy flock and congregation, O most merciful Father, Thou hast in Thy goodness gathered together; Thou hast ordained over them Thy Priests, Thou hast committed them unto the charge and

oversight of this Thine Angel; that they may present unto Thee, according to Thy holy order, the sacrifice which Thou hast appointed, and the worship and service Thou hast ordained, making supplications and prayers, offering intercessions, and giving thanks, for all men; that they may glorify Thy holy Name, and praise and bless Thee for Thine unsearchable goodness.] Hear, therefore, we beseech Thee, the prayer of Thy people, and vouchsafe unto us Thy presence at this time, that our words and acts in consecrating this Altar to Thy service, and to the glory of Thy holy Name, may be made effectual by Thy presence, and by the energy of Thy quickening Spirit.

R. Amen.

Then the Apostle shall go, followed by the Ministers with him, and by the Angel of the Church (and also by the other chief Minister, if it be not the Angel's seat), the rest remaining kneeling, and, coming to the baptistery or font, shall extend his hand over it, and shall say,

WE

E bless, consecrate, and dedicate this Font, for the washing of regeneration. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

R. Amen.

EGARD, O Lord, the supplications of Thy servants; and grant that whosoever shall be dedicated unto Thee by holy Baptism in this Font of regeneration, may be sanctified by the Holy Ghost, delivered from eternal death, received into the ark of Thy Church, fulfilled with Thy grace,

and may ever abide among the number of Thy faithful and elect children.

R. Amen.

Then proceeding towards the pulpit, and stretching forth his hand towards it, he shall say,

YRANT, O Lord, that Thy holy Gospel which shall be preached from this place, may be effectual unto true faith and eternal life; and that they who hear, receiving the word with joy, may both perceive and know what things they ought to do, and also may have grace and power faithfully to fulfil the same.

R. Amen.

¶ Then the Apostle and the Ministers with him shall go up to the Altar; the Angel, Elders, and the other Priests, and the Deacons, shall follow him within the choir, but shall remain at the lower part, standing in the same order within as at the first, before the entrance of the choir. The Apostle, making the sign of the Cross over the centre and on each side of the Altar, shall say, E bless, consecrate, and dedicate this Altar for the celebration of the holy Eucharist, the offering of the Christian sacrifice, and the administration of the holy Communion of the Body and Blood of our Saviour Jesus Christ. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

R. Amen.

Then kneeling down,

Let us pray.

body, and through the shedding of His own blood, a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction for our sins, and for the sins of the whole world, and did institute and command us to continue a perpetual memorial of the same until His coming again; Send down, we beseech Thee, Thy Holy Spirit continually upon the gifts which Thy people shall present unto Thee upon this Altar. Do Thou sanctify their gifts; do Thou sanctify their hearts; that the sacrifice which they shall continually offer unto Thee upon this Altar, according to Thy blessed institution, may come up with acceptance before Thee on behalf of Thy Church and people, and be received upon Thine Altar in the heavens, through the mediation of Jesus Christ, who there abideth the eternal High-priest, evermore presenting on our behalf the merits of His sacrifice. And grant for His sake, that whosoever shall worthily partake from this Altar of the most blessed communion of His precious body and blood, may receive to their great and endless comfort the remission of all their sins, may be fulfilled with Thy grace and heavenly benediction, and finally may be made partakers of His glorious resurrection, and of eternal life.

R. Amen.

¶ Then shall be sung Psalm li. (all remaining kneeling until the Gloria Patri).

Then the Apostle, standing, shall proceed to the Consecration of the Tabernacle, as follows:

Let us pray.

hand of Moses didst command Thy servant Aaron to take of the Manna which Thou didst send down from heaven for the food of Thy people Israel, and to lay up the same, to be continually before Thee; Who hast declared by Thy well-beloved Son, that Thou givest unto those who believe to eat of the True and Living Bread which cometh down from heaven and giveth life unto the world; Vouchsafe to accept, consecrate, and bless this receptacle; that therein the most holy Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ may be continually preserved, for the honour of Thy Name, and for the spiritual food and nourishment of our souls; through the same our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and with the Holy Ghost, One God, world without end.
