PROV. X. 22. The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

PROV. XV. 16.-Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasure and trouble therewith.

ECCL. ii. 26. God doth give to a man that is good in his sight, wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God.

PSALM XXXII. 6. For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee, in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters, they shall not come nigh unto thee. Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. PSALM XXXIV. 19.-Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

HEB. iii. 14. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end.

PSALM xlii. 11.-Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

PSALM XXX. 5.-His anger endureth but a moment; in his favor is life weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

PSALM xlvi. 1.-God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will we not fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea. Though the waters thereof roar, and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.

HEB. X. 35.-Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

36. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

37. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

38.-Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

EVER blessed and most gracious God, who art the Lord and Giver of our lives and hopes, and of all our enjoyments and comforts, through thy good providence we have been spared and preserved, comforted, and provided for, throughout our whole lives, unto this present time. We acknowledge` thy great and daily goodness, and our own unworthiness of the least of thy mercies. We desire, O Lord, to be penitent, and humbled for our sins; and we entreat thy gracious favor in Jesus Christ, for the pardon of them. Being justified by faith, may we have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

O Lord, we pray that thou wilt be to us a Father of mercies, and a God of patience and consolation. Make us watchful followers of Christ; continually fearing to offend, and endeavoring to please thee; and keeping our hearts with all diligence, that they may not be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. We pray, good Lord, that thou wilt arm us with the whole armor of God, and uphold us with thy free Spirit, and watch over us for good evermore. Especially in the times of our sorest trials, may we experience the strongest aids of thy heavenly grace, that we may never fall a prey to those enemies that seek to devour us.

And teach us, O God, to know the day of grace, and the time of our visitation; to understand the things which belong to our peace; and duly to settle the great eternal affairs of our souls, in this

our day, before they be hid from our eyes. And while we have time, enable us to use and improve it, to those great ends for which it was given us, that we may make our short and uncertain stay in this world, a means of securing to ourselves an everlasting well-being, when we shall depart hence.

And since thou art pleased yet to hold our souls in life, and to make us find and feel, by every day's experience, how abundantly gracious thou art, add this, O Lord, to all thy other favors, that we may never forget to be thankful. O give us hearts more constrained by thy love, and more affected with thy mercy. Help us to show forth our gratitude, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by surrendering ourselves wholly to thy service, and by so ordering our conversation as becometh the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Redeeming the time, as we come nearer to our end, may we be made still fitter for the enjoyment of thy heavenly kingdom; that every day may bring us still so much nearer to those everlasting joys and glories which thou hast prepared for them that love thee, through the merits and intercession of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

ACTS xxiv. 16.-Herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward

men.

2 COR. i. 12.-For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world.

ISAIAH lvii. 15.-Thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrit ones. But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

HEB. X. 22.-Let us draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

TITUS i. 15.-Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure: but even their mind and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

LUKE xiii. 24.-Strive to enter in at the strait gate; for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

1 TIM. iv. 2.-Having their conscience seared with a hot iron.

JER. xvii. 9.-The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, through whose merciful kindness we are preserved from day to

day, we approach thy throne of grace this evening, in the name of thy beloved Son.

We humble ourselves in thy sight for all our iniquities, and particularly for those which we have committed during the past week. We are sorry and ashamed that we have had thy glory so little before our eyes; that we have sinned against thee, our neighbor, and ourselves. By leaving undone what thou hast commanded, and by doing that which thou hast forbidden, we have broken thy law, in thought, and word, and deed. If thou, Lord, art extreme to mark what we have done amiss, O Lord, who may abide it! Lay not, we pray thee, our sins to our charge, but wash them away in the fountain which thou hast opened for sin and for uncleanness. And, O thou God of Holiness, give us grace and strength to subdue them. Renew us after thy likeness, in righteousness and true holiness. Make us holy as thou art holy, and pure as thou art pure. O God, make clean our hearts within us; and take not thy Holy Spirit from us.

And since life is short and uncertain, and every week brings us nearer to the end of all things, enable us to lay aside every weight, and the sin that doth so easily beset us, and to run with patience the race that is set before us; looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
