PSALM li. 10.-Create in me a clean heart, O God: and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free Spirit.

JOHN xiv. 16. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth.

2 Cor. v. 17.—If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new; and all things are of God.

ROMANS Viii. 14.-For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts, by the Holy Ghost which is given

unto us.

1 Cor. iii. 16.—Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy: for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

EPH. iv. 30. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

GEN. vi. 3.—And the Lord said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man.

2 COR. xiii. 14.-The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

O LORD, thou art the God whose we are, and whom we ought to serve, with all the endowments and abilities wherewith thou hast blessed us. From thee, our God, comes all our help, and in thee is reposed all our hope. To thee we owe our humblest adoration, our warmest gratitude, and most faithful obedience. Day by day, we magnify thee; the Father, of an infinite majesty; thine adorable,

true, and only Son; also the Holy Ghost, the Comforter. We worship thy name ever, world without end.

We desire, O Lord, to humble ourselves before thee, that our lives have been so full of provocations against thee; that the dishonor which we have done thee, has exceeded all the service; that we have lived to ourselves more than to thee; and have served our own lusts and pleasures more than thy blessed will. By our sins we have spoiled and destroyed ourselves; but it is not in us to recover and save ourselves. In thee alone is all our help. Yea, thou hast laid help upon one that is mighty, and able to save to the uttermost all that come to God through him: through whom thou hast encouraged us to come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in every time of need. In him, therefore, we beg, Lord, that thou wilt be reconciled to us, and at peace with us; as a Father of mercies, and a God of consolation.

For his sake, enable us also, we beseech thee, to demean ourselves as becomes the children of God, the redeemed of the Lord, and the members and followers of Jesus Christ. O put such principles of grace and holiness into our hearts, as may cause us to hate all iniquity, and every false way. Not only lay thy commands upon us, but be pleased, O Lord, to enable us for the performance of every duty. And so engage our hearts to thyself, that

we may make it our meat and drink to do thy will; and with enlarged hearts, run the way of thy commands. And as long as we are in this world, keep us, O Lord our God, from the evil of it, and from the snares and dangers to which thou knowest we are continually exposed. Make our passage safe and sure, through all the changes, troubles, and temptations, of this mortal life, to the unchangeable glories and felicities of life everlasting.

[Here introduce any appropriate Collect.]

Be merciful to us, good Lord, and bless us, and keep us by night and by day, in all our ways, and in all our lawful designs and undertakings; and may we take nothing in hand, but what is warranted in thy word. Let thy fear be ever before our eyes to restrain us from the things provoking to our God, and destructive to our souls. And let thy love abound in our hearts, and sweetly and powerfully constrain us to all faithful and cheerful obedience, acceptable in thy sight, through him that loved and redeemed us, even the Lord our righteousness; in whose blessed name alone, we offer our unworthy petitions. Amen.

Our Father, &c.

Tuesday Evening.

ROM. viii. 11.-If the Spirit of him, that raised up Jesus from the dead, dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

JOHN vi. 63.—It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Rom. viii. 26.—Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

GAL. v. 22.-But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh, with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

HEB. vi. 4. For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

1 Cor. vi. 11.—And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

O LORD, God of our salvation, day and night will we cry unto thee. Bow down thine ear and hear us. Let our prayer come up before thee as incense; and let the lifting up of our hands be an acceptable evening sacrifice.

We do not presume to draw nigh unto thee, trusting in our own righteousness, but in thy manifold and great mercies in Christ Jesus. We are not worthy to implore the smallest blessing at thy hands. For though thou hast nourished and brought us up as children, yet have we sinned and rebelled against thee, our heavenly Father, from our youth up even until now. We have broken

thy law, resisted thy spirit, and slighted all the claims of thy mercy. But, blessed be thy name, there is forgiveness with thee, and plenteous redemption in thy beloved Son. O look upon us in compassion through him, our only Mediator and Advocate. And thou, who art exalted to be a Prince and a Saviour, obtain for us repentance and remission of sins. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us. Through the power of thy covenant, may we go to our rest, delivered from the burden of guilt, and the bondage of corruption, and knowing that, by thy great mercy, we are translated into the glorious. liberty of thy children.

Grant us grace, O God, day by day, to examine our hearts and lives, and so to search and try them, that we may know of what manner of spirit we are. Let not a deceived heart be the cause of our ruin; but give us an enlightened and a tender conscience. Suffer us not to grieve thy Spirit by trifling with sin, and resisting the convictions of our minds; lest we provoke thee to leave us to
